Sedalia Police Reports for July 29th, 2024

Friday night, Officers were dispatched to Spring Fork Lake in reference to an intoxicated driver located by a conservation agent. When Officers arrived, they made contact with the driver and through investigation, determined he was intoxicated. Ivan Kushnir, 33, of Sedalia, was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated. Kushnir was transported to the SPD, where he provided a breath sample that showed his BAC to be above 0.08. Kushnir was issued a Uniform Traffic Ticket for Driving While Intoxicated, fingerprinted, and then released to a sober driver.
Saturday night, Officers conducted a traffic stop at East Saline Street and North Hurley Street that Officers had observed running a stop sign. During the course of the investigation, it was determined the driver was intoxicated. Kimberly Sue Ballenger, 44, of Sedalia, was arrested on a charge of Driving While Intoxicated (Drugs). Ballenger was transported to the Bothwell Regional Health Center for a blood draw, and then booked in at the Pettis County Jail.
Sunday night, Officers were dispatched to the 300 block of East Saline Street in reference to a report of sexual misconduct. When Officers arrived, they spoke with the caller, who reported their neighbor was staring at her and her sister-in-law from his front porch. He was masturbating and exposing himself. Kevin Scott Morrison, 52, of Sedalia, was arrested on a charge of felony Harassment in the 1st Degree and Sexual Misconduct in the 1st Degree (Prior Offender) *. Morrison was placed on a 24 hour hold at the Pettis County Jail.
Sedalia Police investigated a property damage report on Sunday evening. A suspect was breaking out windows of a house in the 1100 block of South State Fair Boulevard. The suspect was contacted and detained. After an investigation, it was determined the suspect used a crowbar to break two windows of a nearby residence. Nicholas Allen Howe, 36, of Sedalia, was arrested on charges of Burglary in the 2nd Degree, Possession of Burglary Tools**, and Property Damage in the 1st Degree. The value of the damage is set at $1200.
Sunday evening, Officers responded to a physical disturbance at Hubbard Park. Upon arrival, Officers were unable to complete the investigation. A subject later came into the Police Department to complete a report of the incident.
Officers responded to the 300 block of East 5th Street Sunday night in regards to a subject check. The subject in question was found deceased in their home, apparently of natural causes. The family was notified, and the subject was transported to a local funeral home.
Sedalia Police were flagged down Sunday night in the 1400 block of South Carr Avenue. James Edward Illiff Jr. wished to report a hit and run accident. No one was injured, and the incident was captured on video.
Sunday evening, Officers responded to the 200 block of East 24th Street in reference to a found property report. Officers spoke with Carol Lynn Wilkinson, who stated she found a wallet in her yard. Officers collected the wallet and no contact has been made with owner at this time.
Saturday afternoon, a call came in from the 1500 block of West 4th Street regarding a harassment situation. Upon arrival, information was gathered for a report.
Sunday afternoon, Officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle with an expired license plate. While id3entifiying the occupants, it was found the passenger had an active warrant from the City of Columbia for their arrest. Maria Guadalupe Hernandez, 29, of Sedalia, was arrested for her Failure to Appear warrant on original charges of Driving While Suspended. Bond was set at $200 cash or surety.
Saturday evening, Officers responded to a found property report at the Sedalia Police Department. Officers spoke with an unnamed reporting party, who found a wallet near the intersection of East Broadway Boulevard and South Ohio Avenue. The wallet has been collected.
Saturday afternoon, Officers conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of North Ohio Avenue and East Pettis Street on a pickup truck that was failing to display registration. Officers discovered the passenger had an active misdemeanor Failure to Appear warrant from Saline County (City of Sweet Springs) on original charges of Speeding (20 – 25 MPH Over). The driver, who was not named in the report, was issued two municipal summons and released on scene. The passenger, Elizabeth Pearl Meador, 33, of Sedalia, was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail, pending a cash only bond of $100.
Officers took a call from the Menard’s store, 4400 Wisconsin Avenue, regarding found property on Saturday evening. The property was taken back to the Police Department and logged into the evidence system for safe keeping.
Sedalia Police conducted a vehicle stop near the intersection of East 16th Street and South New York Avenue Saturday afternoon. The driver was arrested for a Johnson County Parole Violation warrant on original felony charges of Stealing a Weapon. Dakota Everett Marek, 21, of La Monte, was transported to the Pettis County Jail, pending a cash only bond of $15,000.
Sunday morning, Officers conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of West 16th Street and South Ingram Avenue on a vehicle that had failed to display its front license plate. Officers identified the driver and discovered she had an active warrant for her arrest from Christian County. McKenna Rae Koch, 19, of Sedalia, was arrested for her FTA warrant on original charges of Speeding (26 MPH or More). Koch was transported to the Pettis County Jail pending a cash only bond of $550.00.
Officers were dispatched to a theft report Sunday afternoon in the lobby of the Police Department. Karen Wenberg reported she had just purchased items from TJ Maxx, and left them outside of the store. When she returned, the items were gone.
Sunday morning, a call came in from the Police Station lobby regarding a hit and run accident that occurred on Saturday. Raven White reported the accident occurred in the Wal Mart parking lot, 3201 West Broadway Boulevard. A suspect has not been located at this time.
Saturday evening, Officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle because it had expired registration. The stop took place near South Monte Avenue and West 6th Street. During the course of the investigation, Officers discovered the driver’s status was suspended. Luis Alberto Sotelo Alvarado, 27, of Sedalia, was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail. Alvarado was fingerprinted and issued a Uniform Traffic Ticket for Driving While Suspended.
Saturday morning, Officers responded to the 1400 block of South Ohio Avenue in regards to a report of harassment. The suspect was not on scene, and charges of harassment were submitted to the prosecutor.
Officers were dispatched to the 1200 block of East 12th Street for a investigation into a violation of a court order Friday evening. Officers gathered information to generate a report, and submitted charges to the prosecutor.
On the morning of July 21st, Officers were dispatched to assist with a traffic stop near West 9th Street and South Ohio Avenue. The vehicle had been stopped for an equipment violation. During the course of the investigation, it was determined the drier was intoxicated. Daniel Gonzalez Talavera, 19, of Sedalia, was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated (Alcohol) and transported to the Sedalia Police Department for a blood draw. Talavera was then transported to the Pettis County jail to be booked and released.
Saturday evening, Officers responded to the 1400 block of South Harrison Avenue to investigate a report of harassment. The incident was related to another incident that had occurred earlier in the same day in the county. Charges are being sought.
Friday morning, Officers spoke with Jessica Buesing in the lobby of the Police Department. Buesing reported her car was damaged sometime over the last five months at WK Chevrolet Buick and GMC, 3310 West Broadway Boulevard. A report was completed.
Saturday morning, Officers conducted a vehicle stop near the intersection of East Chestnut Street and North Emmett Avenue. The driver was found to not have a driver’s license. Santiago Quetzecua Cano, 45, of Sedalia, was arrested on a charge of Operator’s License Required. Cano was transported to the Police Department to be fingerprinted, and was released with a citation.
Sedalia Police responded to the lobby of the Police Station in reference to an identity theft case Saturday afternoon. Steven Allison stated he had received several emails from loan companies, stating loan applications were denied. Allison, however, had not applied for any loans. There are no suspects at this time.
Saturday morning, Officers were dispatched to the 700 block of East 18th Street in reference to a domestic disturbance. The incident had turned physical, and it was documented using a 12-hour log.
Friday morning, Officers took a report of fraud. The reporting party stated that someone with a phone number listed as “UnitedHthcare” called her and collected private information from the 700 block of Katy Circle.
Friday evening, Officers were patrolling in the area of East 4th Street and Emmett Avenue. Officers observed a subject riding a four-wheeler in the area. Officers attempted a traffic stop, and the subject failed to yield. The rider accelerated and drove through the front yard of a residence, before pulling into a yard in the 1700 block of East 4th Street. The suspect exited the four-wheeler and entered a shed behind the residence. The suspect was called out and taken into custody a short time later. Tommy Lee Edwards, 25, of Sedalia, was arrested on a charge of Operator’s License Required, ATV on Roadway, and Failure to Yield to an Emergency Vehicle. Edwards was taken to the Police Station to be fingerprinted and released with citations.
Saturday night, Officers received a call that a large group of people were getting ready to fight in the area of South Osage Avenue and West 5th Street. The Missouri State Highway Patrol and Sedalia Police Officers were able to investigate and make an arrest. Lynn Marie Bentley, 39, of Sedalia, was arrested on charges of Assault in the 4th Degree, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and Armed Criminal Action. Bentley was placed on a 24-hour hold, pending charges.
Saturday night, Officers were dispatched to the former Stephanie Morris Nissan, 2600 South Limit Avenue, in reference to a subject check. When they arrived, an intoxicated subject was located sleeping near the highway. Dennis Miles, 51, of Columbia, was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail to be placed on a 12-hour safekeeping hold.
*Morrison is a Tier 3 Sex Offender. He was convicted of Attempted Forcible Rape in St Francois County in 2001, and Sexual Misconduct in the 1st Degree in Audrain County in 1995.
**The report also notes there is further evidence to indicate the suspect attempted to open a window using his hand.
