Sedalia Police Reports For July 27, 2022

Tuesday evening, Sedalia Police were dispatched to the 1800 block of South Grand Avenue in reference to a disturbance. During the course of the investigation, it was discovered an adult male was throwing rocks at juveniles and calling them derogatory names. A male family member then confronted the subject throwing rocks and called the Police. Samuel L. Comfort, 18, of La Monte, was arrested for Assault in the 3rd Degree and Harassment in the 1st Degree. Comfort was transported to the Pettis County Jail to be placed on a 24 hour hold.

Officers responded to the 1300 block of South Ohio Tuesday night in reference to wanted person. Upon arrival, Officers met with the female subject and checked her information with Dispatch. It was confirmed she had two warrants. One warrant, for Failure to Appear, was from Pettis County on original charges of Possession of Marijuana and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Another warrant for Failure to Abide was from Moniteau County on original charges of felony Possession of a Controlled Substance. Shannon Elizabeth Demshick, 52, Homeless, was arrested on her warrants and transported to the Pettis County Jail. Bond on the Failure to Appear warrant was set at $250 cash only, while there was no bond on the Failure to Abide warrant.

Early Wednesday morning, Officers conducted a traffic stop on a black vehicle with no license plate lights near the intersection of West Main Street and South Vermont Avenue. The driver was found to have a suspended driving status. Guy R. Fehr, 41, of Sedalia was arrested for felony charges of Driving While Suspended and transported to the Pettis County Jail.

Sedalia Police were dispatched to the 3300 block of McVey Road for a mutual aid request Tuesday evening. Dispatch advised it was a physical disturbance in progress. Officers arrived, and determined a domestic assault had taken place. Pettis County Deputies arrived on the scene and took command of the incident.

Tuesday afternoon, Officers took a report of assault in the 200 block of East 13th Street. A suspect came to the residence and demanded property. The victim told the suspect they were not getting the property, and the suspect pulled out a hatchet. The suspect demanded the items again, and was denied. The suspect swung the hatchet at the victim two times, and then struck and overhead water line, causing it to rupture. Prior to Police arrival, the suspect left the area. Officers were unable to locate him. The suspect is known and charges are being sought.

Monday evening, Officers were dispatched to the ABC Storage Units, 1327 West Main Street, for a report of property damage. Officers made contact with Brian Hanback, who stated that sometime in the past month someone kicked in the driver's side door of his vehicle while it was parked at the business. Hanback estimated the damage to be worth $1,000.

Officers were dispatched to the 1000 block of East 5th Street Tuesday morning for a report of a deceased subject. Upon arrival, it was confirmed the subject had passed away sometime that morning. There is no foul play expected at this time.

Sedalia Police took a report of theft from an employee at the Goodcents restaurant, 4400 West Broadway Boulevard. The employee stated a DoorDash order was picked up from the business, but never made it to its intended customer.

Tuesday morning, Officers were dispatched to Vermont Park for a report of trespassing. The trespasser's information was given to Dispatch, who confirmed he had a Failure to Appear warrant on original charges of Driving While Revoked. He was also found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia. The subject's belongings were taken to the Police Department for safekeeping. Floyd Eugene Flippin Jr., 56, Homeless, arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail pending a $1500 cash or surety bond.

Tuesday afternoon, Officers were dispatched to the Police Station lobby in reference to harassment. The reporting party has filed for an ex parte, however, it has yet to be served. The respondent in the ex parte has been driving past the reporting party's home and place of work.

On the afternoon of July 26th, Officers were dispatched to the intersection of East 6th Street and South Washington Avenue in reference to reports of a female lying in the street. The subject was taken to the Bothwell Regional Health Center for a fit for confinement check due to intoxication. Dispatch confirmed the subject had a warrant for her arrest. Afterward, Sarita L. Leon, 60, of Sedalia, was arrested for her warrant for Assault in the 4th Degree (Pursuant to Subdivision). Leon was transported to the Pettis County Jail to be held on a $1500 cash or surety bond.

Officers were dispatched to Walter's Barber Shop, 513 West 16th Street Tuesday morning in reference to found property. A cell phone was found with damaged screen. It was on the side of the road in front of the business. The phone was entered into evidence for safekeeping.
