Sedalia Police Reports for July 17, 2023

Last Thursday morning, Sedalia Police took a report from Shannon M. Sharp, a resident of another state. Sharp completed a purchase from an individual in the 400 block of West 5th street in Sedalia on Facebook Marketplace, and was defrauded. The case is still under investigation.

Sedalia Police were dispatched to the lobby of the PD Saturday night in reference to a theft that occurred in the 200 block of East Boonville Road. Officers spoke with Mark Timothy Prall Sr., who said his hearing aids were stolen while he was sleeping. The aids were valued at $1800. No arrests have been made at this time. After Prall reported the theft of his items, it was discovered he was a suspect in a theft that occurred the previous day in the 500 block of South Ohio Avenue. Prall Sr., 61, of Sedalia, was arrested for Stealing and transported to the Pettis County Jail to be booked and released.

Officers were dispatched to the 1100 block of East 11th Street Sunday night to investigate reports of a disturbance. After speaking with both individuals involved, a primary physical aggressor could not be determined. A 12-hour log was completed.

Early Monday morning, Officers were dispatched to the lobby of the Police Department in reference to a disturbance. Officers spoke with the complainant, who stated he was assaulted by his girlfriend. Officers spoke with her at their residence in the 1000 block of East 3rd Street, and she stated she was assaulted by him. A primary physical aggressor could not be determined. A 12-hour log was completed.

Sunday evening, Officers were dispatched to the Police Department to take a burglary report. The burglary was reported to have taken place in the 600 block of South Grand Avenue. Officers gathered enough information to generate a report.

Early Sunday morning, Officers responded to the 1300 block of South Grand Avenue in reference to 911 call. Upon arrival, Officers located a large party with a fight. A male subject fled the scene on foot, and after a short pursuit, he was apprehended. The male subject was found to have an active Failure to Appear warrant from 2011 out of Warren County* on original charges of Operating a Motor Vehicle on the Highway Without A Valid License. Juan L. Cacari, 38, of Sedalia, was arrested and transported to the BRHC for a fit for confinement check. Cacari was transported to the Pettis County Jail. Cacari was booked in with a $300 cash only bond on his warrant. Cacari was placed on a 24-hour hold pending charges of felony Possession of a Controlled Substance and felony Resisting Arrest.

Sedalia Police conducted a traffic stop Friday evening in the area of West Broadway Boulevard and South State Fair Boulevard because it had expired vehicle registration. The driver was found to have a revoked driver’s license. John L. Debates, 46, of Sedalia, was arrested for Driving While Revoked, Expired Registration, Failure to Register a Motor Vehicle, and No Proof of Insurance. Debates was transported to the Sedalia Police Station, processed, and released with a summons.

Sunday morning, Officers were dispatched to the 500 block of East 7th Street in reference to a noise complaint. Officers arrived and contacted a subject known to have a warrant from Pettis County**. The warrant was confirmed, and the subject was arrested. Jerry Junior Cook, 39, of Sedalia, was arrested on his warrant and transported to the Pettis County Jail to be booked pending a $7500 cash or surety bond.

Officers were dispatched to a call for service in the 2500 block of Dennis Road early Sunday morning. Upon arrival, Officers gathered the necessary information to generate a report. Officers then learned that one of the subjects had a warrant for their arrest out of Pettis County. Mary Elizabeth Riley, 46, of Sedalia, was arrested for her warrant on charges of felony Possession of a Controlled Substance.

Saturday night, Officers were dispatched to the 600 block of Maple Lane to investigate a domestic disturbance. Contact was made with both parties. Both parties stated there had been a physical altercation. The primary physical aggressor could not be determined. A 12-hour log was completed for documentation.

Sedalia Police responded to the 1200 block of South Ohio Avenue for a report of a domestic disturbance. Officers arrived and contacted both parties Saturday night. After further investigation, it was determined the male had threatened to kill the victim in front of two small children at the residence. Larry D. Brown, 44, of Sedalia, was arrested for Domestic Assault in the 4th Degree. A Parole Violation warrant out of Miller County from 2016 was confirmed for Brown on original charges of Speeding, Operating a Motor Vehicle Without a Valid License, and Driving While Intoxicated. The Miller County warrant carried a cash only bond of $1,072.50. Brown was placed on a 24 hour hold at the Pettis County Jail.

Officers were dispatched to Murphy’s USA, 3203 West Broadway Boulevard for a report of a stolen motorcycle. Timothy A. Ewry reported the motorcycle stolen Sunday evening. A report was made, a suspect has been identified, and the investigation is ongoing.

Saturday evening, Officers observed a subject walking improperly on the side of West Broadway Boulevard near South Grand Avenue. Officers contacted the suspect. The suspect’s information was checked with Dispatch, who advised the suspect had a felony Failure to Appear warrant from Benton County, Arkansas***. Anthony Q. Smith, 32, Homeless, was detained, arrested, and taken to the Pettis County Jail. Smith was placed on a 24-hour hold pending state charges of Fugitive from Justice. Bond was set at $200,000 on the Arkansas warrant, and bond on the Fugitive from Justice charge was set at $100,000 cash or surety.

Saturday afternoon, Officers spoke with Hollie Richards over the phone regarding an issue with a roommate. Richards told Officers her house was shot at during a disturbance in the 800 block of East 13th Street.

Saturday morning, Officers took a report of stolen clothing in the 1700 block of South Lamine Avenue from Elisa Bonjour. There was no further information in the report.

Sedalia Police took a report on Saturday afternoon of Harassment. A female entered the lobby of the Police Department to report her husband has been tracking her whereabouts. A report was completed.

Sunday afternoon, Officers responded to the 1800 block of South Beacon Avenue in reference to a burglary and theft. Upon arrival, Officers met with Anthony Wise. Wise stated his garage was unlawfully entered, and the electrical wiring was stolen from it. At the time of the report, there is a suspect in mind.

Sedalia Police and emergency crews were dispatched to the Break Time store, 318 West Broadway Boulevard, Saturday afternoon in reference to an accident. A pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle. Investigation revealed that an altercation had occurred in the parking lot. During the altercation, a vehicle fled, but a person had been reaching inside of it. The person fell from the vehicle and was subsequently ran over. The vehicle then fled from the accident. The victim was flown to the University of Missouri Hospital. A suspect has bene developed, and the case remains under investigation.

Sunday morning, Mose Watson entered the lobby of the Police Department to turn in found property. Watson stated he found the property in the 2400 block of South Limit Avenue. The property has been placed into evidence for safe keeping.

Saturday afternoon, Officers were dispatched to the Wal Mart store, 3201 West Broadway Boulevard, in reference to a shoplifter. The asset protection intercepted a subject in the process of shoplifting. Nicole L. Brown, 48, of Sedalia, was released from the store with a court summons for city charges of misdemeanor Stealing.

Officers responded to the 1000 block of East 5th Street in reference to property damage. Marco A. Cervantes Guillen stated they found bullet holes in their vehicle and residence. The suspect has not been identified at this time. Officers found another residence had been struck by a bullet, but no contact was made at this time.

Saturday morning, a female entered the lobby of the Police Department. The female walked to the counter and set a Spectrum Router on the counter and left. The router has been placed into evidence.

Friday night, Officers were dispatched to the area of East 10th Street and South Marshall Avenue to investigate reports of possible shots fired at an address in the area. Witnesses directed Officers to a certain residence, where it was believed multiple shots had occurred. Officers approached the residence and contacted multiple subjects. The subjects were removed from the residence while Officers cleared the residence. Officers found no issues. Officers then determined the residents had been shooting off fire crackers outside of the residence. A report was completed for documentation.

Officers responded to the 300 block of McAnally Court Friday night in reference to a trespassing report. Officers arrived on scene to find the intoxicated suspect fleeing through the back yard. The suspect was quickly detained. Officers spoke with the reporting party, who stated the suspect was attempting to kick in her back door. Brandon Jackie Cooper, 34, of Sedalia, was arrested for Trespassing in the 1st Degree, Public Peace Disturbance, Resisting Arrest, and Assault in the 4th Degree. Cooper was placed on a24 hour hold at the Pettis County Jail.

Sedalia Police responded to the Wood’s store, 701 East Broadway Boulevard Friday night. Officers located a suspect and found him to be under the influence of alcohol. Jesse R. Smith, 56, of Sedalia, was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail to be placed on a 12-hour safekeeping hold.

On the evening of July 11th, Officers responded to the Sedalia Police Department lobby in reference to a hit and run accident report. Officers spoke with Elizabet Emily Echols, who stated her vehicle was struck in the area of West 32nd Street and South Lamine Avenue earlier in the day. The suspect vehicle fled the scene. The suspect has not been identified at this time.

Friday afternoon, Officers responded to the 1700 block of South Osage Avenue in reference to a domestic disturbance. A male and female were identified. The female stated the male had been physical with her. The female had a small cut to her lip, and refused medical treatment. Wesley T. Kern, 31, of Sedalia, was arrested for Aggravated Domestic Assault in the 2nd Degree. Kern was placed on a 24 hour hold at the Pettis County Jail.

Friday morning, Officers were dispatched to Duke Drive for a report of found property. Officers made contact with the caller, Steven R. Nagel. Nagel reported he had found an illegal substance located in their business, on the 3500 block of West Main Street. The item was collected for destruction.

Friday morning, Officers were dispatched to a structure fire in the 500 block of East 27th Street. Upon arrival, it was discovered a detached garage was on fire. The fire was quickly extinguished by the Sedalia Fire Department. The fire is being investigated.

On the afternoon of July 11th, Officers responded to the Break Time store, 101 Rebar Road, for a report of theft. Michael P. Conroy stated a bike was stolen from the location. There is video footage. At the time of the report, a suspect has not been identified.

Friday morning, Officers served a warrant at the Probation and Parole Office, 205 Thompson Road. A male subject was taken into custody without incident. Kobe K. Staten, 19, of Sedalia, had an active Parole Violation warrant on original charges of felony Assault in the 2nd Degree. Staten was transported to the Pettis County Jail to be held with no bond.
