Sedalia Police Reports For January 18, 2022

Last Thursday afternoon, Officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Summer Avenue in reference to an assault. A juvenile male had assaulted his pregnant stepmother by hitting and kicking her in the stomach. PCAD was dispatched as a precaution. The female subject was checked out by PCAD, but refused treatment at the scene. A report was completed for documentation.

Officers observed a vehicle known to them travelling at 81 miles per hour in a 25 mile per hour zone Tuesday morning in the area of South New York Avenue and East 28th Street. After attempting to stop the vehicle, the vehicle fled. After the vehicle fled, Officers discontinued the pursuit due to knowing the vehicle and the driver. The vehicle continued at a rate of 102 miles per hour out of city limits. Charges are being sought.

Sedalia Police were dispatched to the 1300 block of South Marshall Avenue for a report of a stolen car part Monday morning. When Officers arrived, they spoke with Pamela D. Dula. Dula stated that sometime between Saturday January 15th and Sunday January 16th, someone stole the center cap to the front passenger side wheel on her vehicle. The estimated value of the center cap was $62.78. There are no suspects at this time.

Monday morning, Officers were dispatched to the ABC Rentals, 416 West Main Street, for a report of a vehicle theft. When Officers arrived, they spoke with Clifford D. Van Dyne. Van Dyne said he rented a 2021 cargo van, valued at $38,000 to a subject on January 2nd. The subject was supposed to return the vehicle on January 3rd. When the suspect didn't return the vehicle, Van Dyne attempted to contact them several times before finally contacting the Police. At the time of the report, the suspect and the vehicle had not been located.

Sedalia Police were dispatched to speak with Christina M. Obiero on the phone Monday morning, who wanted to report property damage. Obiero stated that the front and driver's side tires of her vehicle were punctured at her residence in the 300 block of McAnally Court. Obiero stated it happened on early Saturday morning. The estimated value of the damage was $200. There are no suspects at this time.

Last Wednesday morning, Officers responded to the 1400 block of South Carr Avenue for a report of a Port A Potty that was on fire. Upon arrival, the structure was burning on the ground and unidentifiable. Contact was made with the property owner, Steven Jackson, and Hank's Portable Toilets. At the time of the report, no formal charges are being sought.

Sedalia Police were dispatched to the DC Battery, 210 East 3rd Street, Monday morning in reference to property damage. Between the afternoon of January 14th and the morning of January 17th, the north glass door to the business was damaged.

Early Saturday morning, Officers were dispatched to the Katy Park Baptist Church, 901 West 24th Street, in reference to a burglary. When Officers arrived, a point of entry was found. A church member responded with a key. The building was cleared, and it was discovered a safe valued at $750 was missing. No arrests have been made at this time.

Officers were dispatched to the Wal Mart store, 3201 West Broadway Boulevard Sunday evening in reference to a theft. When Officers arrived, they spoke with the caller, who reported a female had walked around the store placing several items in her cart and attempted to leave without paying. The individual was stopped at the door and ran off, leaving the items. The total value of the stolen items was $910.15. No arrests have been made at this time.

Saturday evening, Officers responded to the 1900 block of South Marvin Avenue in reference to a wellness check. Officers made contact with the subject, who was fine. During the investigation, Officers confirmed that a full order of protection was in place between the complainant and the subject. All parties have been identified, and state charges of Violation of a Full Order of Protection are being submitted.

Early Sunday morning, Officers conducted a traffic stop at South Ohio Avenue and West Main Street on a vehicle that failed to signal a turn. Officers made contact with the driver, and during the course of the investigation, it was determined the driver was intoxicated. Michael T. Riedl, Jr., 55, of Houstonia, was arrested and transported to the Sedalia Police Department, where he provided a breath sample that showed his BAC was above 0.08. Riedl was fingerprinted and issued a UTT with a court date, then released.

Sedalia Police made a traffic stop on East Broadway Boulevard and South New York Avenue early Sunday morning on a vehicle that they had observed swerving. Officers made contact with the driver, and during the course of the investigation, it was determined the driver was intoxicated. Pedro Marcos, 22, of Sedalia, was arrested and transported to the Sedalia Police Department, where he failed to provide an adequate breath sample. Marcos was transported to the Bothwell Regional Health Center and a blood draw was conducted. Marcos was then transported to the Pettis County Jail, where he was placed on a 12 hour protective custody hold. A request for the charge of Driving While Intoxicated was submitted to the prosecutor.

Sunday afternoon, Officers responded to a residence in the 1700 block of South Harrison Avenue for a burglary report. Chris Klein reported a suspect cut the lock from an outbuilding on the property and stole antiques.

Sunday afternoon, Officers responded to the Bast Storage, 108 West Pacific Street, for a report of a burglary. Contact was made with a male subject, who reported that the lock to his storage unit was cut off and some items were stolen from inside.

Sedalia Police were dispatched to the 300 block of South Lamine Avenue for a report of an assault Friday afternoon. Upon arrival, Officers met with Michael Alan Etter II, who stated that on January 13th, he was assaulted by his girlfriend's father in the 1300 block of South Harrison Avenue. Officers will be submitting charges against the suspect.

Sunday afternoon, Officers responded to the 3200 block of Buckingham Drive in reference to a property damage report. Upon arrival, Officers met with two residents who live on each side of a vacant lot. Some time during the overnight hours, someone drove a vehicle onto the vacant lot and performed a "donut", causing debris to strike a privacy fence of the victim's residences. The vehicle then left the area. At the time of the report, a suspect has not been identified.

Sedalia Police were dispatched to the Sedalia Public Library, 301 West Third Street, for a report of found property at the library Friday morning. Officers made contact with Bob Brown, who stated he found an ID card in the library. Officers were unable to make contact with the owner of the ID, and it was placed into found property.

Friday morning, Officers were dispatched to the Phillips 66, 216 West Broadway Boulevard, for a report of found property. Officers made contact with Virginia Kay Jones, who stated that there has been a bike that was left in front of the store for the past day. The bike's serial number was ran through Dispatch. Dispatch stated that the bike had not been reported as stolen, so the bike was placed into found property.

Saturday morning, the Sedalia Police Department, the Sedalia Fire Department, and the Pettis County Ambulance District were dispatched to the 100 block of Autumn Avenue in reference to a possible overdose. The patient was transported to the Bothwell Regional Health Center for further treatment.

Sunday morning, Officers initiated a warrant check on a subject in the parking of the Cenex, 120 East 16th Street. A check through Dispatch showed he had an active Probation Violation warrant on original charges of Delivery Or Possession Of A Controlled Substance At A County/Private Jail Except With A Written Prescription with no bond. David Joe Bennett, 48, of Sedalia, was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail, where he was booked.

Sedalia Police stopped a vehicle near the intersection of West 9th Street and South Grand Avenue for having expired registration Saturday afternoon. A computer check through Dispatch of the driver's information, revealed that his Missouri driving privileges had been revoked. Jeremy A. McDaniel, 30, of Cedar Springs, was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail, where he was booked and released.

Last Tuesday afternoon, an Officer was dispatched to the Family Center Farm and Home store, 1400 South Limit Avenue, in reference to a trespassing call. The suspect came into the store looking for a specific employee. The suspect then went into a marked employee only area of the store. State charges of Trespassing were submitted to the prosecutor.

Saturday afternoon, Officers met with Wal Mart management in the lobby of the Police Department in reference to a theft. They advised that on January 9th, someone known to them entered the store and stole articles of clothing totaling at $32.91. The suspect was identified and charges of stealing are being sought against them.

Sedalia Police were dispatched to the 100 block of West Cooper Street in reference to a disturbance Saturday evening. When Officers arrived, they spoke with individuals involved and determined a primary aggressor. Michele Ann Davenport, 54, of Sedalia, was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail, where she was placed on a 24 hour hold. A request for the charge of Domestic Assault in the 4th Degree has been submitted to the prosecutor.

Late Saturday night, Officers responded to the Bothwell Regional Health Center, 601 East 14th Street, in reference to a combative patient, who was assaulting hospital staff. Officers made contact with the subject, and she was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail. Lacey Renee Battles, 37, Homeless, was placed on 24 hour hold pending state charges of Assault in the 4th Degree.

On the afternoon of January 14th, the Sedalia Police Department received information that a wanted individual was in the 500 block of East 16th Street. The suspect was located and his two Pettis County warrants were confirmed by Dispatch. One warrant was for a charge of Domestic Assault in the 3rd Degree and carried a bond of $2,500 cash or surety. The other warrant was for charges of Sexual Abuse in the 1st Degree and Invasion of Privacy, which carried a bond of $5,000 cash or surety. Tevin C. Egner, 27, of Sedalia, was transported to the Pettis County Jail and booked on his warrants.

Sedalia Police made contact with a subject in the lobby of the Police Department who had a warrant for his arrest Friday afternoon. Dispatch confirmed the warrant, which was issued by the Sedalia Municipal Court after the suspect failed to appear on an original charge of Obstruction. Marquoi Dionte Staten, 29, of Sedalia, was transported to the Pettis County Jail, where he was held pending a $60 cash only bond.

Saturday morning, Officers were dispatched to the 3100 block of Katy Trail Avenue for a theft report. Sam Jones reported an unknown suspect stole items from a vehicle overnight.

Officers responded to the 1500 block of South Barrett Avenue in reference to a physical domestic disturbance Friday night. Upon arrival, Officers made contact with two male subjects that resided together. One male subject was determined to be the primary physical aggressor and was placed under arrest. Cecil Glen Keller, 29, of Sedalia, was transported to the Pettis County Jail and placed on a 24 hour hold pending state charges of Domestic Assault in the 4th Degree.

Early Saturday morning, Sedalia Police Officers were dispatched to the 1600 block of East 7th Street for a reportedly intoxicated subject trying to leave in a vehicle. Due to other priority calls, the request for assistance from the Pettis County Sheriff's Office was made. While Deputies were enroute to the call, Dispatch updated that the suspect was now hitting her mother and sister. Tonya D. Skutnick, 32, of Versailles, was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail, where she was placed on a 24 hour hold pending the filing of charges for Domestic Assault in the 4th Degree.

On the afternoon of January 14th, an Officer made a traffic stop on a car because the owner had an active Pettis County warrant with a $7,500 bond near North Emmet Avenue and East Harvey Street. The driver was identified as Samantha J Carter, 26, of Sedalia. Carter was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail and booked.

Friday morning, Officers were dispatched a building in the 1500 block of Driftwood Drive belonging to Liberty Life Center. A suspect broke into the building and stole approximately $150.00 in cash. There is video footage available of the suspect.

The Crime Resolution Unit received information of a wanted person at the Motel 6, 3402 West Broadway Boulevard last Thursday afternoon. Detectives made contact with the individual and confirmed four Failure to Appear arrest warrants out of Henry County on original charges of Driving While Revoked, Resisting Arrest, and two counts of Trespassing, with a total bond of $2,000 cash or surety. While in the room, items related to illegal drug activity were observed. The individual consented to a search of the room and belongings. During the search, additional items related to drug activity were located. Carrie Lynn Wilcox, 45, of Sedalia, was arrested on the outstanding warrants and drug charges. Wilcox was transported to the Pettis County jail pending bond while formal charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia are being sought.

Friday afternoon, an individual with an active arrest warrant was observed in the 200 block of East 13th Street. Contact was made with the individual and it was confirmed there was an active arrest warrant out of the office of Probation and Parole. Trina L. Harvey, 39, of Sedalia, was placed under arrest without incident. Harvey was transported to the Pettis County Jail on the no bond warrant.

On the morning of January 10th, Officers responded to a residence in the 900 block of South Moniteau Avenue where a subject reported to have found an unknown substance. The substance was seized and entered into evidence.

An individual with an active arrest warrant was observed in the 1200 block of South Osage Avenue by Detectives with the Crime Resolution Unit on the afternoon of January 12th. When Detectives attempted to make contact with the individual, he fled on foot. The individual was arrested a short distance away. While the individual fled, he was observed discarding an item near a house. The items were later recovered and found to be a controlled substance. Michael Brandon Hicks, 27, Homeless, was transported to the Pettis County Jail for an active arrest warrant out of Pettis County for Delivery of a Controlled Substance with a $25,000 cash or surety bond. Additional charges of Possession of a Dangerous Drug, Tampering with Evidence and Resisting Arrest are being sought.

Sedalia Police stopped a vehicle near the intersection of East 4th Street and South Massachusetts Avenue for not being property registered on the afternoon of January 11th. A computer check through Dispatch revealed that the driver did not have a license. A search of the vehicle resulted in drug paraphernalia being found. Shayanne Nichole Meyer, 25, of Sedalia, was arrested on charges of No Operator's License and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, but was ultimately released so she could make a court appearance.
