Sedalia Police Reports For April 26, 2023

Tuesday morning, Officers conducted a vehicle check at the Katy Park, 2200 South Grand Avenue. Officers located a subject in the vehicle and determined him to be under the influence. Based on the circumstances, he was placed into protective custody. Ezekiel Paul Ellsworth, 26, of Sedalia, was transported to the Pettis County Jail to be placed on 12-hour protective custody hold.

Monday evening, Officers took a report of a theft from a debit device at the Dollar Tree store, 3107 West Broadway Boulevard. Officers spoke with Joann Spade, who stated her debit card was used in the amount of $1.38. Information was collected, and a report was completed.

Sedalia Police attempted to make a traffic stop on a vehicle for failing to stop at a stop sign near East Broadway Boulevard and South Center Avenue Tuesday afternoon. The pursuit was terminated. A report was completed to document the incident.

Officers contacted a subject that was dumpster diving in the area of the 1300 block of South Harrison Avenue Tuesday afternoon. The subject advised Officers that he had dumpster dived earlier in the day and had come across someone’s personal documents. He turned over the documents for safekeeping. The documents were logged into evidence for safekeeping. Attempts to contact the document’s owner were made.

Sedalia Police took a theft report over the phone Tuesday night from Larry Haag. Haag stated his wallet had been lost or stolen near the Casey’s store, 3500 West 16th Street. Before he had noticed it was stolen, cards had been used at several local businesses in Clinton, Missouri.

Monday evening, Officers took a hit and run accident report from Mekeba Nash. Nash stated her vehicle had been struck while it was parked in the 700 block of West Cooper Street on April 22nd. Nash provided leads to Officers, which are being followed up at the time of the report. There is no suspect information at this time.

Monday evening, Officers responded to the 2600 block of Highland Road for a report of trespassing. Upon arrival, it was found the suspect had not committed a trespass, but had disturbed the peace of the residents. Matthew Young, 21, of Lincoln, was issued a citation for Public Peace Disturbance.

Tuesday night, Officers were dispatched to the 1500 block of South Vermont Avenue for a report of a disturbance. Upon arrival, Officers spoke to several subjects. A computer check revealed one of the subjects had an active Failure to Appear warrant form Pettis County on original charges of Driving While Intoxicated. Cody Austin Harvey, 30, of Sedalia, was arrested for his warrant and transported to the Pettis County Jail, pending a $451.50 cash only bond.

Tuesday evening, Sedalia Police responded to the 1900 block of South Marvin for a civil dispute. During the contact, the subjects involved were identified and one subject was found to have three active Failure to Appear warrants out of Pettis County on original charges of Driving While Revoked. Enrique Serna Canseco, 30, of Sedalia, was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail pending a total cash or surety bond of $7500.

Sedalia Police responded to 1503 Driftwood Drive for a reported domestic violence incident early Tuesday morning. A female stated that a male was holding her at gunpoint. Upon arrival, Officers, with the assistance of Pettis County Deputies, formed a perimeter around the residence. The female managed to get away from the home. Officers then called out the male, who eventually came out of the residence. Nathaniel Aaron Swartz, 35, of Sedalia, was taken into custody and transported to the Pettis County Jail. Swartz was booked in on charges of felony Domestic Assault in the 1st Degree, Armed Criminal Action, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, felony Kidnapping and Tampering with a Victim or Witness in a Felony Prosecution.

Monday night, Officers responded to the area of Welch Court and Saline Street for a report of a possibly rabid raccoon. The raccoon was located and determined to be dangerous. Officers dispatched the raccoon, and then contacted Animal Control to collect the animal.

Monday afternoon, Officers took a report of a Violation of an Order of Protection. After speaking with the reporting party, no violations have been committed at this time. A report of the incident was taken for documentation.

Sedalia Police spoke with Vickie Lewis Tuesday morning. Lewis stated she had found a Missouri driver’s license in the 3500 block of West Broadway Boulevard. The ID’s owner could not be located.

Monday evening, Officers responded to the 2000 block of South Limit Avenue regarding a hit and run accident. A red Dodge truck had stalled and was backed into by a dark Toyota sedan. The investigation is ongoing.
