Sedalia Police Reports For April 12, 2021

On the evening of April 6th, Officers responded to the 1000 block of East 16th Street in reference to a disturbance. During the investigation, Officers located marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Maylyn D. Pozenel, 43, of Sedalia, was arrested for Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Early Saturday morning, Officers responded to the Wendy's restaurant, 1301 South Limit, for a report of leaving the scene of an accident. The suspect tried to drive a UHaul truck through the drive thru and collided with the overhead awning before leaving the scene.

Sunday evening, Officers responded to the Menard's store, 4400 Wisconsin Boulevard, in reference to a stolen vehicle. Amy Coleman stated that while she was working, someone gained access to her vehicle and was able to steal it along with her purse, identification and credit cards.

Officers were dispatched to the lobby of the Police Department Sunday night in reference to a forgery that occurred at the Wal Mart store, 3201 West Broadway Boulevard. Officers spoke with the complainant, who stated a female had come into the store and with a receipt, took items on the receipt off the shelf and returned them at the service desk as if she had paid for them. The suspect has been identified and a request for a charge of Forgery has been sent to the prosecutor.

Saturday evening, Officers stopped a passenger vehicle near East 24th Street and South Ingram Avenue for a loud noise coming from a vehicle. The driver was identified and found to have a suspended Missouri driver's license. Bryan T. Calvert, 48, of Sedalia, was arrested and transported to the Police Department where he was booked and released on a municipal ticket for Driving While Suspended.

Officers responded to the area of East 5th Street and South Brown Avenue in regards to a traffic complaint Sunday afternoon. The vehicle in question was located and the owner was found to have two active Pettis County warrants. Thomas Duane Church, 38, of Sedalia, was arrested and taken to the Pettis County Jail, whereupon he was booked on the two Failure to Appear warrants on original charges of Operating a Motor Vehicle on the Highway Without a Valid License and Speeding. Total bond was set at $120 cash only.

Sunday afternoon, Sedalia Police responded to the Breaktime Store, 318 West Broadway Boulevard in regards to a disturbance and theft. The suspect was located in the 400 block of East 7th Street. Salina Nicole McCollom, 34, of Sedalia, was issued a summons for Stealing with a court date.

Sunday afternoon, Officers were patrolling in the area of North Grand Avenue and West Morgan Street when they were flagged down by residents in the 500 block of North Grand Avenue. The two were actively involved in a domestic disturbance as the female was attempting to move out. During the investigation, it was determined that the two were involved in a minor physical altercation prior to Officer's arrival. Neither party were injured, and there was no primary aggressor determined. A 12 hour log was completed.

Saturday morning, Officers were dispatched to the 2100 block of South Warren Avenue in reference to a hit and run. When Officers arrived, they spoke with Herbert Chinchilla Lopez and Maria Garcia. Lopez stated that someone had hit his vehicle and pushed it into his wife's vehicle when it was parked in his driveway, and then left the area. No arrests have been made at this time.

Sunday morning, Officers responded to the 800 block of North New York Avenue in regards to an assault no longer in progress. Christina Lee Stewart, 44, of Sedalia, was arrested at the scene and taken to the Pettis County Jail, where upon they were booked and held for 24 hours pending charges of felony Domestic Assault in the 3rd Degree by the prosecutor.

Sedalia Police were dispatched to the Police Station lobby for a report of theft Saturday afternoon. Upon arrival, Officers met with the caller who stated that his elderly mother was the victim of a scam. The subject stated that his mother had lost around $66,000 to the scammer.

Saturday afternoon, Sedalia Police responded to the 1200 block of South Limit in reference to a naked male wandering around. Upon arrival, Officers met with the subject, who was only wearing a shirt. The subject stated that during the overnight hours, he was sexually assaulted by two people at a nearby hotel. The subject was transported to the Bothwell Hospital by PCAD and there is only limited suspect information at this time.

Officers made contact with Don Eugene Williams Jr. Saturday afternoon, who reported a theft had occurred in the 1200 block of South Grand Avenue. It was reported that a female subject had stolen items from his house a month prior.

Saturday afternoon, Officers were dispatched to the 1700 block of South Sneed for a report of a possible deceased subject. Upon arrival, it was determined that the subject was deceased. The cause of death appears to be from natural causes and there are no signs of any foul play.

Late Saturday night, Officers conducted a vehicle check in the 3500 block of West Broadway Boulevard. Upon contact with the occupants of the vehicle, the odor of marijuana was detected. A search revealed a male and female occupant were both in possession of marijuana. Both Ryan M. Wooders, 29, of Cleveland Missouri, and Amanda Marie Taylor, 24, of Warrensburg, were issued a municipal court summons for Possession of Marijuana with a court date.

Sedalia Police met with the victim in the lobby of the Police Department Friday afternoon. She stated that she was physically abused by her then boyfriend between the years of 2019 and 2020 while living in Sedalia. The investigation is ongoing.

Saturday afternoon, Sedalia Police were called to the 1200 block of East 9th Street for a report of suicidal subject. Upon arrival, Officers made contact with a subject who stated that she had taken about 20 lithium pills in an attempt to end her life. The female was transported to the Bothwell Hospital and a child abuse hotline call was made about the incident.

Officers conducted an investigative stop on a vehicle near the intersection of East Broadway and South Wagner Avenue Friday afternoon. The registered owner of the vehicle had an active warrant out of Pettis County. The owner was confirmed to be the driver. Leonard James Williams, 62, of Sedalia, was placed under arrest for his warrant of Failure to Appear on original charges of Failing to Register a Vehicle. Williams was transported to the Pettis County Jail, where he was given a cash only bond of $60.

Friday afternoon, Officers made contact with the Wal Mart Asset Protection employees in reference to a shoplifting report. It was reported that that morning, a female subject stole some items from the store. The suspect fled when confronted.

Sedalia Police responded to the CK Logistical Services INC, 719 West Main Street Friday morning for a report of theft. Stephen Ratcliff reported that a license plate was stolen from a company vehicle the day prior.

Friday afternoon, Sedalia Police were dispatched to the 100 block of West Cooper for a report of property damage. Upon arrival, Officers met with Cye Casey, who stated that sometime overnight, someone damaged his front windshield on his SUV that was parked in the street.

Saturday morning, Officers were called to the 1600 block of South Engineer Avenue for an attempt to contact. It was found that the subject, Nathan Lee Riga, 30, of Sedalia, had three outstanding Failure to Appear warrants. Two were Sedalia Municipal warrants on original charges of Failing to Stop at a Stop Sign, and Failure to Maintain Financial Responsibility. One warrant for Failure to Appear was from Cooper County on original charges of Failure to Maintain Financial Responsibility. Total bond on the warrants totalled to $370 cash only. Riga was arrested and transported to the Pettis County jail on the active warrants.

On the evening of April 6th, Officers responded to the Police Department to complete a report over the phone. Officers spoke with a female victim who stated her identity had been stolen.

Friday night, Officers were dispatched to the Police Station lobby in reference to a missing persons report from the New Haven Group Home, 1902 South Ingram Avenue. A staff worker reported a 14 year old female left the residence earlier that evening and had not returned. A report was made, and the juvenile was entered into MULES as a missing person.

Officers made contact with a male subject in the 600 block of East 13th Street Friday evening. During the contact, a search was conducted of the male, and he was found to be in possession of methamphetamine. Justice KT Workman, 22, of Sedalia, was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail. At the jail, Workman was placed on a 24 hour hold pending state charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance.
