The Sedalia Area Farmers' Market (SAFM) will host a food safety training meeting for current and prospective vendors.

The meeting will take place at the Thompson Conference Center on the State Fair Community College campus at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, March 26.

Vendors will have the opportunity to learn about plans for the 2018 market and receive information about rules and regulations. All vendors in attendance can partake in food safety training provided by the Pettis County Health Department and certification of scales through the Missouri Department of Agriculture Weights & Measures. Egg licenses will also be available to those who plan to sell eggs. A press release from SAFM noted that Danielle Reddick will arrive at 5:00 p.m. to start certifying scales and issuing egg licenses. (Bring one dozen eggs packaged and labeled as you would have for sell at the market).

Every vendor is required to attend training in person or by video.

“This is a great opportunity for first-time vendors to learn more about the market, and for prospective vendors to decide whether to give it a try,” said Anna Conroy, market board president.

As a local, producer-only market, all growers must be from Pettis County or its contiguous counties, according to the press release. The market has annual membership, as well as incremental or daily vendor fees. Vendors can submit applications and payment at the meeting.

The first day of the market season is set for Friday, May 4. The market will be open from 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. on Tuesdays and Fridays at the Missouri State Fairgrounds Centennial Gate, located off South 65 Highway.

The SAFM will be open from May - October
