'Saturday Night Fever' is coming to State Fair Community College in March, as a benefit for a newly proposed technical education facility!

The disco-themed event begins at 6:00 p.m. and is open to the public. It will feature cocktails and appetizers, dinner and a dessert dash, a live auction, and a lip sync battle.

“Once again, we are thrilled to offer a social event that features local talent and supports the college’s mission to grow and empower our students and communities,” said Dr. Joanna Anderson, SFCC president. “I’m looking forward to spending time with valued friends and partners and strengthening the future of our technical programs, which are the lifeblood of the community.”

According to a press release from SFCC, there is a new feature this year; the dessert dash. Guests at each table can enter their bids on cards, that will be collected and totaled to create a combined table bid for a donated dessert. The guests with the highest table bid get to choose their dessert first. Descending bids are then announced in quick succession, and table reps must dash to the desserts to claim their choice.

After desserts are served, two teams will perform their selections for the lip sync battle. Next, a live auction will be held followed by the last two teams’ performances. While judges tally scores and votes are counted, the winners of the 2016 lip sync battle, the SFCC Technical Education team, will perform.

The teams competing this year consist of three teams comprised of SFCC faculty and staff and one team comprised of community members.

The live auction will include a metal fire pit donated by ProEnergy; a Branson time share package donated by Dick and Sue Barr Parrish; six months of fresh floral arrangements donated by Moore’s Greenhouse; six months free occupancy of 10-foot by 10-foot or small storage unit donated by BAST Storage; two Jerry Moon paintings donated by Gary and Marilyn McMullin; stained glass artwork donated by Deb Simaitis; and a glass fusion party donated by Don Luper. More auction items can be found at www.sfccmo.edu/saturday-night-fever. The auctioneer for the evening will be Jeremy Garber.

“SFCC is preparing for another milestone with the building of the proposed technical education facility,” said Mary K. Treuner, SFCC Foundation executive director. “It will allow us to expand programs that will improve the quality of life for students, their families and our communities. The foundation board wholeheartedly backs this benefit and appreciates everyone who participates and volunteers. It’s going to be a fun, memorable evening.”

'Saturday Night Fever' tickets are $100 per person. Individuals, groups, or businesses may also reserve tables of 10, for $1,000.

Since the theme is 'Saturday Night Fever,' dressy casual or 70s-style attire is suggested. Parking is available in front of the Davis Multipurpose Center.

Seating is limited and reservations are due by March 10th. To reserve seats, call the SFCC Foundation at 660-530-5811.
