Seventh inning errors doomed Sacred Heart’s baseball team to its second loss in as many games to Pilot Grove.

After rallying from a 2-1 deficit to take the lead 3-2 in the bottom of the 6th inning, the Gremlins couldn’t hold on in the top of the seventh.

With two outs, a dropped ball on a force play at second base scored the tying run, and a base hit on the ensuing batter would push across the go ahead run for Pilot Grove in the top of the seventh to take a 4-3 lead in what would be the final score of the game.

Alex Karigan, Carter Rice, Dallin Chappell, and George Bain IV all had hits for Sacred Heart. Chappell was the losing pitcher in 2 2/3 innings of relief. Both runs charged to Chappell were unearned in the 7th inning.

Freshman Gavin Caldwell was the starting pitcher for Sacred Heart and earned a “no decision” after allowing two earned runs on three hits with nine strikeouts.

Sacred Heart will look to notch its first win of the season on Wednesday at Sweet Springs with Malta Bend (0-1).
