Royals Famous Stadium Will Be Gone Soon! You Ready For New One?
When I moved to Missouri, there were a few things I wanted to do. One of them was visit Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City. It has always been one of the most beautiful ballparks in the Major Leagues. Clean, good food, and the waterfalls are just amazing. If you are a Kansas City Royals fan, I have some bad news.
The team has confirmed that they plan on building a new stadium. Royals Chairman and CEO says the team is building a new ballpark district and are looking at option in downtown Kansas City or something close to it.
Kauffman Stadium opened in 1973, the year I was born. It has hosted 3 World Series, and the Royals brought home the championship in 1985, and 2015. The lease on the building will be ending in 2030, and the park will turn 60. It will be a shame that we will not be able to gets shots like the one below.
The embedded tweet above is an open letter to the fans and the city of Kansas City. I always loved this ballpark and I remembered the first time I finally got a chance to see a game there. It was just beautiful. But apparently it is getting harder and harder to handle the upkeep of the park.
If you click HERE you can get more details on what may be happening in the future, including some artist renderings on what the new stadium might look like. The Royals CEO said the move to a new ballpark “will be contingent on contingent on continuing our public-private partnership and investment with multiple local jurisdictions and the State of Missouri.”
Now on one hand, new stadiums usually bring in a lot of revenue to the states and lots of jobs will be created since the ballpark will need to be built. I do love the convenience of just heading up I-70 for an hour and a half and then making a left turn and there is Kauffman Stadium. On the other hand, this place is still one of the best ballparks in MLB and it will be sad to see it go.
So what is your reaction? Are you for it? Or want it to stay? Again, click HERE for more details. I will miss it when it goes. Maybe the Royals can put a winning team together in the next few years, and give it a proper sendoff. Share your thoughts.
