Randy Travis’ Fiancee Says Prayers Have Helped Mend Singer’s Heart
Ever since Randy Travis was admitted to the hospital, country music stars and fans have united to show an outpouring of support for the iconic singer. Now that the singer is in stable condition, his fiancee believes that the prayers from so many people helped heal his heart.
"I know that those are prayers that have helped mend his heart along with the skilled hands of the physicians and doctors and nurses here at the Heart Hospital of Baylor in Plano," Travis' fiancee Mary Davis says.
She adds that even though Travis is still in critical condition, he's in a much better place than he was a few days ago.
"I know that Randy feels each and every one of those [prayers]. He feels the hands of the doctors and the care of the nurses and the love of his fans," she continues. "His friends and family have all been touched by that. He is responding well to voices, and he sees and he understands. He's miles beyond where any of us thought he would be a few days ago."
While it's been reported that a viral infection landed Travis in the hospital in the first place, the singer's doctors updated fans on Monday with news that Travis actually suffers from scarring of the heart muscle. This is an unfortunate genetic condition.
For now, Travis is in critical, but stable condition, and he remains on a ventilator. In a few weeks, he'll start aggressive physical therapy to regain his strength following the stroke he suffered last week.
Although he is in better condition, his family is still asking for prayers and support.
"It's heartwarming to see that we have such a strong person under there that's willing to fight with us," Davis adds. "We all know that we had greatness to work with. We ask for your continued support. I know that Randy will be so touched by that when he understands the magnitude of it all."
Mary Davis was known until recently as Mary Beougher. She and the singer have been together since at least last August, as it was her estranged husband whom Travis tangled with during a scuffle in a church parking lot. It's not clear if the couple had previously set a date for their wedding.
