It is time for the Dallas Cowboys to lose the nickname "America's Team", as there's a new team that has that throne.

Before we go forward, let's go back as the nickname began back in 1978 as the team released its annual highlight film.

The narrator of the film, John Facendal started the film by saying "They appear on television so often that their faces are as familiar to the public as presidents and movie stars. They are the Dallas Cowboys, "America's Team".

Ever since then along with the success came more and more fans who wanted to cheer for America's team and the franchise value boomed to the best by far in the NFL.

The success though has dried up and when teams like the Jacksonville Jaguars, Tennessee Titans, Arizona Cardinals, and others are making Championship games while the Cowboys are in a two-decade drought, the nickname has to go.

America is full of winners, not losers and the name "America's Team" needs to be attached to some winners.

There's a new "America's Team" and they reside right in the heart of America as the Kansas Chiefs are the new era darlings of the NFL.

I was born in 1985 so my memories of the dominance of the Dallas Cowboys of course comes from the 1990s which I see so many comparisons to this current Chiefs roster and future.

You start with the head coaches and both Jimmy Johnson and Andy Reid had the resume coming into the position and both landed the Lombardi Trophy.

Johnson did it twice before his unceremonious departure from Big D and Reid landed his first a season ago with more on the horizon in the years to come.

Both had superstar QB's that were drafted by the team and in the case of the Chiefs, they actually have the better of the two and that is saying something considering Troy Aikman's Hall of Fame jacket.

The Cowboys had the edge with individual talent at WR and RB with two Hall of Famers in Michael Irvin and Emmitt Smith but the Kansas Chiefs have more offensive weapons overall and they have the perfect individuals for their scheme.

The defenses are so similar from having studs on the defensive line to athletes all over the field and some big names in the secondary.

Overall there are clearly many similarities between the two and the dynasty run of the Kansas City Chiefs is just beginning with a megastar in Patrick Mahomes signing a long-term deal and being what many consider the perfect player to be a franchise quarterback.

Players will want to come to play for this team for years to come, Mahomes is only going to get better and the experience their young players are getting is going to make them a prohibitive favorite year in and year out.

I mention all that to say this... They are all so likable as well!

This a group you want to cheer for, it is a city right in the heart of America that has all the makings of a football mecca over the next decade and as the great Denny Green once said, "If you wanna crown 'em, then crown their ass!".

Well, Denny, I'm going to crown the Kansas City Chiefs as the new "America's Team".
