Mo State Treasurer Malek Touts Benefits of MoAble Program
Missouri State Treasurer Vivek Malek paid a visit to Center for Human Services (CHS) on Wednesday afternoon to help mark the eight-year anniversary of the Mo Able Program, and how it can help empower Missourians to achieve great independence and financial security through STABLE accounts.
Malek addressed a couple dozen people gathered in the CHS training room, 1500 Ewing Drive, along with other CHS staff across the state watching on ZOOM.
Malek was introduced by CHS CEO David Kramer.
The Treasurer’s office oversees the program, which began in 2017. The Missouri program currently contains 4300 accounts. As of March 2025, the average account balance was over $11,000.
“It’s a great program for people with disabilities,” Malek told KSIS. “A lot of people have doubts, because sometimes when they start saving, or have more than $2,000 in their account, it starts impacting their Social Security and disability benefits. With MoAble, you can have up to $100,000 in the account, in deposits, and you will not impact your Social Security or disability benefits.”
Malek touted that over the lifetime of the account, the money can grow, and you can have up to $550,000 in that account, which is life changing for many people.
“We have had people who have come to us and said that they have been able to make a down payment towards purchasing their own house by using this program, and not losing their benefits,” Treasurer Malek recalled, “or having their own vehicle to drive and living a normal life.”
He added that a debit card (a STABLE account, through VISA) can be used to pay for services, transfer money, record and track expenses and safeguard spending for the account holder, or authorized legal representative.
To open a MoAble account, simply go to www.moable.com, fund your account with as little as $25 to get it started, and start saving, investing and spending.
Malek noted that right now, the state is matching that $25 on new accounts.
“It’s a great, great program,” Malek told KSIS, “and I am very proud that my office is working hard. Since I took office, we have seen 46% growth in this program. My goal is to make sure that every Missourian who needs this program, knows about this program so they can lead a good, healthy & fruitful life, and achieve their God-given potential.”

Go to the MoAble.com website and there you will find an online chat feature with a live human who can help you set up your own account. Or call 1-800-439-1653.
