A few years back, The State of Missouri published a short (about 5 minutes) YouTube all about the Missouri State Fair. We do a lot of stuff with the State Fair and at the State Fair, so I thought I'd watch the video and see what I could learn. Here are a few fun facts I picked up about the Missouri State Fair.

Several Missouri cities were in the running to host the Missouri State Fair. Legislators took a train trip to visit the candidate cities, which also included Marshall, Chilicothe, and Mexico, Missouri.

After bout 15 hours of discussion, it took about 10 votes, which went late into the night, before it was finally decided that Sedalia would become the city to host the Missouri State Fair.

Many of the historic buildings on the State Fairgrounds are over 100 years old. The Commerical Building was built in 1903.

The grandstand at the Missouri State Fair can seat 8800. Over 2000 track seats are added for concerts. It takes a over 11,000 attendees to sell out concerts at the Missouri State Fair.

The 2018 Missouri State Fair will take place August 9-August 19. Entertainment this year will include Rock of the Seventies (Foghat, Atlanta Rhythm Section, Firefall and the Pat Travers Band on August 10), The Roots & Boots Tour (Sammy Kershaw, Aaron Tippin and Collin Raye on  August 14), The Southern Uprising Tour (Travis Tritt, The Charlie Daniels Band, The Marshall Tucker Band and The Outlaws on August 15), Casting Crowns on August 16 and Cole Swindell on August 18.
