97 Labradors Rescued from ‘Horrific’ Conditions at Missouri Home
Having had two Labrador Retrievers in our family over the years, it pains me to share something like this. Volunteers in Missouri just rescued 97 of these precious animals from what is being described as 'horrific' conditions.
The Humane Society of Missouri shared this video of what they discovered when they descended on a home they say is listed on the "Horrible 100" list nationwide for worst breeders in the country. 97 Labrador Retrievers many of whom were being kept in tiny cells and cages. This recovery happened in Phelps County, Missouri from an unlicensed breeder.
My family had two Labrador Retrievers years ago and I can tell you this is one dog breed that should NEVER be kept in a space this small.
Of the 97 recovered, many of these labs appeared to be severely malnourished.
Some also had sores the size of softballs on their skin that needed immediate attention.
The good news is they were able to rescue these Labrador Retrievers quick enough to be able to nurse them back to help. Many are already available for adoption through the Humane Society of Missouri website.
They added this note for anyone who sees an animal in trouble:
To report an animal that may be in danger or is suffering from neglect or abuse, call the local police and the our Animal Cruelty Hotline at 314.647.4400
Let's hope the authorities can stop this Phelps County breeder from doing anything like this ever again.
