The more things change, the more they stay the same. Have you heard that old phrase? It applies as there are some big changes coming to Missouri drivers licenses in early November.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol sent out a notice that drivers license offices across the state will be closed starting at noon on November 7, 2024 and all day November 8, 2024. Those Missouri DMV offices will not reopen until Tuesday, November 12, 2024 following Veteran's Day on that Monday.

Why will Missouri Drivers License Offices be closed over the span of several days in November?

Here's a scary word: modernization.

It's all a part of the new drivers license system connected to the Missouri Department of Revenue. There are a lot of minute details, but the short version is it will apparently make many drivers license processes easier to complete online. The Missouri DOR says it will allow "additional e-services available for submitting reinstatement documents and paying fees, accessing public records and account enrollment to access specific driver record information".

But wait, there are more changes coming...

By the Spring of 2025, you will have the option of keeping your drivers license on your phone instead of in your wallet or purse. By July of 2026, you will be able to access all of your drivers license and vehicle information through one single account login plus dealers will be able to charge sales tax on-site. Oh, joy.

The system will then begin automatic checks on license registrations and insurance information to make sure all drivers are current on both.
