Hear Miranda Lambert’s New Single, ‘Keeper of the Flame’
Miranda Lambert has selected "Keeper of the Flame" as the next single from her newest album, 2016's The Weight of These Wings. Readers can press play above to hear the dreamy tune, which will officially go to country radio on April 16.
Written by Lambert, Natalie Hemby and Liz Rose, "Keeper of the Flame" finds Lambert reflecting on her role as "the keeper of the flame / The teller of the story / The keeper of the flame / For the ones that came before me." There's an ethereal quality to the song's melody and instrumentation -- and even to Lambert's vocals -- throughout the track.
"I'm walking in their footsteps / I'm singing their old songs ... I'm bent, but I'm not broken / I'm stronger than I feel / I'm made of flesh and bone, not made of steel," the country star sings in the song's first verse. In the second verse, she croons, "Sometimes I'm just a flicker / A candle in your eye / But I swear to God, I'll never let it die."
"Keeper of the Flame" is the song from which Lambert's 2016 summer tour drew its name. It appears on the Heart, the second disc of Lambert's The Weight of These Wings double album.
“Every record I’ve ever made has been a reflection of where I am right then in my life, however old I am. And I’ve never held back at all,” Lambert explains. “But this time, with what I happened to be going through in my life, being honest was never really a choice. Everybody knew anyway. So I just said, I’m gonna journal it, and — good days and bad days — use it for my art.”
Lambert is currently on the road for her Livin' Like Hippies Tour; the trek began in January and is scheduled to run through late March. Joining Lambert on the road for all of her 2018 tour stops will be Jon Pardi; additionally, select dates will include Brent Cobb, the Turnpike Troubadours, Lucie Silvas, the Steel Woods, Sunny Sweeney, Ashley McBryde and Charlie Worsham.
