Kacey Musgraves Is ‘Grateful’ For Album of the Year Win at 2018 CMA Awards
Kacey Musgraves pulled off a significant win during the 2018 CMA Awards for Album of the Year. Golden Hour earned her the award, a project she spent a year and a half pouring her heart and soul into.
Musgraves served as the lone female nominee in the category, beating out the likes of Chris Stapleton, Keith Urban, Thomas Rhett and Dierks Bentley. Musgraves truly felt the impact of the win, as it came 10 years to the day that she moved to Nashville to pursue her dreams. It marks her first major win at the CMA Awards since donning the title of New Artist of the Year in 2013.
Golden Hour received widespread acclaim from critics, with Musgraves' raw songwriting abilities warranting her a coveted performance slot on Saturday Night Live and talks of a Grammy nomination. She appreciates the heights the album has taken her to and the journey it's allowed her to go on.
"I think this album has reached well beyond country music," she expresses to the media backstage at the CMA Awards. "I'm very thankful. I'm so grateful for the CMA and my entire team. I'm so grateful for the fans and the listeners out there who have supported this. From the beginning all I've wanted to do is just make music that makes me happy; and that's why I do it, it makes my soul happy. That's where the songs come from. And if anyone else likes it, that's icing on this already amazing cake."
Musgraves capped off the evening with a performance of her ethereal "Slow Burn," bringing her eclectic vibe to the prominent country stage and citing it as "one of my most autobiographical songs."
"It's an ode to the pace of something unfolding in a slow and nice way and I thought to myself 'the best things in life are a slow burn, something that you enjoy the journey of,'" she describes of the compelling track.
The singer recently wrapped the European leg of her Oh, What a World Tour. She'll bring the set over to North America starting in January of 2019.
