Jamie Lynn Spears Dishes on Sibling Rivalry, What Britney Taught Her
With her debut single 'How Could I Want More,' newcomer Jamie Lynn Spears has emerged onto the country music scene as a promising young singer. Her first Billboard chart appearances are enough to make anyone jealous -- but does that mean she has sibling rivalry with big sister Britney?
At just 22 years old, the younger Spears entered the Hot Country Songs chart at No. 29 and digital songs chart at No. 8 -- an exciting feat for someone who is really as new as newcomers come. She's ecstatic about the success thus far, of course, telling Billboard, "I can't believe that my song has reached Billboard. It's a dream come true."
Spears may be feeling similarly to how older sister Britney Spears felt when releasing her first single, the pop smash '...Baby One More Time.' It's an exciting time for the younger Spears, but she maintains that there is absolutely no sibling rivalry between the two gals -- instead, there's only love, fun and respect.
"Me and Brit, I'm sure no one believes me when I say, there is no rivalry!" says Spears. "You have to remember that we are 10 years apart, so I always saw her as a second mom. We have fun like only sisters can, but we don't have that young sibling rivalry.
"She was one of the first people to call and tell me how proud she was of the success of ['More'], so charts won't come between me and her – never will!" she continues.
The 'How Could I Want More' singer adds that if there's one thing she's learned from her Grammy-winning sibling, it's work ethic. "Britney really taught me work ethic. She never expected anything from anyone and earned her way by hard work," Spears insists. "But, she always appreciated every moment of it. So, I learned you have to really care, and really work your ass off!"
One thing the younger Spears wants to make clear is that she is not a crossover star. "I never had a pop career, ever," she tells Taste of Country. "I never released a song or anything. When I was younger I was on a Nickelodeon show, and ever since I was 16 years old I’ve been back home in Louisiana, and after I had my little girl moved to Nashville and started writing."
Spears is currently working her hardest preparing her debut country album following the release of a beautifully simple music video. It's not surprising that she's already stormed the Billboard charts -- reception on her single has been overwhelmingly positive.
