Britney Spears: ‘Let’s All Keep Praying’ for Jamie Lynn’s Daughter Maddie
Jamie Lynn Spears' sister, pop star Britney Spears, has shared her thanks to fans for their well wishes for her niece Maddie following her ATV accident on Sunday (Feb. 5).
After asking her fans for "all the wishes and prayers" for Maddie on Monday (Feb. 6), Spears updated fans on Wednesday (Feb. 8): "We are so grateful to share that Maddie is making progress. Thank you all for sending thoughts and prayers our way."
"Let's all keep praying," Spears adds.
On Tuesday afternoon (Feb. 7), according to a statement from a Spears family representative, 8-year-old Maddie regained consciousness after driving her ATV into a pond on Sunday; the young girl was trying to avoid running over a drainage ditch and overcorrected her course. Jamie Lynn Spears and her husband, Jamie Watson, along with other family members, were about 100 yards away when Maddie crashed; they tried to rescue Maddie, but, officials say, she was trapped by the ATV’s seatbelt and safety netting. It is unknown if Britney Spears was present at the time of the accident.
Tuesday's statement reports that Maddie is “awake and talking,” and off her ventilator; although she is still receiving oxygen and being monitored, “it appears that she has not suffered any neurological consequences from the accident.” Although Jamie Lynn Spears has yet to publicly comment on the incident, in addition to Britney Spears, Watson has shared his thanks for fans' well wishes.
Jamie Lynn Spears shares custody of Maddie with the girl’s father, Casey Aldridge. Spears became pregnant with Maddie in 2007, at the age of 16; the singer and Aldridge, then girlfriend and boyfriend, got engaged in the spring of 2008, and Maddie was born in June of that year. However, the couple called off their engagement in the spring of 2009, and their relationship officially ended in early 2010. Spears married Watson in 2014.
Spears released her most recent single, “Sleepover,” in June of 2016.
