Hometown Baseball Park to Be Dedicated to Jake Owen
Jake Owen is being honored by having a baseball field in his hometown dedicated in his name.
NASCAR driver Kevin Harvick surprised the singer with the news at the sixth annual Kevin Harvick Foundation Dinner, Auction and Concert on Dec. 15, where Owen was performing. The racing champion revealed that the Kevin Harvick Foundation and the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation are collaborating to open a youth development park named in Owen’s honor in Owen's hometown of Vero Beach, Fla. Jake Owen Field will be completed in the summer of 2017.
Owen is no stranger to giving back to his hometown. For the tenth year in a row, he hosted the Jake Owen Foundation Benefit Concert on Dec. 9 in Florida. The performance helped support organizations including St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Boys & Girls Club of Indian River County and others in the singer’s hometown area that aim to help improve the lives of youth. To date, the event has helped raise $1.25 million for St. Jude and several local charities.
“This sports complex is going to literally change children’s lives and provide such a positive impact on our community of Vero Beach,” Owen says (quote via the Kevin Harvick Foundation). “I’m so proud to call Kevin Harvick a friend, and forever grateful for his continued generosity towards our foundation and many others.”
According to a press release, proceeds from Harvick's event benefited the Kevin Harvick Foundation’s mission and its partnership with the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation. The latter helps build character and teaches critical life lessons to disadvantaged youth living in distressed communities in America through baseball and softball-themed programs and ballparks.
