Sedalia Police Reports For August 11, 2023

Early Friday morning, Officers responded to the 2500 block of South Ingram Avenue for a potential burglary in progress involving weapons. Upon arrival, the suspects fled from the scene in a vehicle. Information for a report was collected, and the investigation is ongoing.

Sedalia Police performed a traffic stop on a blue Chevrolet truck Thursday evening. The stop was conducted because the driver was recognized as a revoked driver. The driver passed the Officer in the area of East Saline Street and North New York Avenue. The Officer caught up to his truck and stopped him near the Housing Authority on West Saline Street. Officers spoke to the driver and confirmed his revoked status through Dispatch. Reggie Ervin Townsend, 61, of Sedalia, was arrested for Driving While Suspended.

On the morning of August 6th, Officers performed a traffic stop on a silver Pontiac passenger car in the area of East 14th Street and South Summit Avenue. Officers observed the vehicle fail to signal a left-hand turn from East 16th Street onto South Summit Avenue. Officers spoke to the driver and an occupant, and checked their information with Dispatch. It was then learned the driver had a suspended driver’s license. Kelsey Marie C. Atherton, 35, of Sedalia, was arrested for Driving While Suspended. Atherton was transported to the Pettis County Jail to be booked and released with a court date.

Sedalia Police were dispatched to the Woods Express, 703 East Broadway Boulevard, in reference to damage to a retaining wall on the southwest side of the building Thursday afternoon. The damage was believed to have occurred earlier that afternoon.

Officers responded to the 600 block of East 10th Street for a report of possible stolen groceries Thursday morning. Upon arrival, Officers spoke with the reporting party, Elmer J. Miley Jr. Miley stated he had groceries delivered from Wal Mart earlier that morning. The groceries were placed on a neighbor’s porch. After investigating, Officers were not able to prove any criminal intent. A report was made to document the incident.

Wednesday evening, Officers observed a subject in the area of the 1000 block of West 3rd Street that was known to have a warrant. Officers contacted the subject. A computer check through Dispatch showed her warrant was active. The warrant was a Failure to Appear from 2022 on original charges of Failing to Stop at a Red Light. Kimberly S. Ballenger, 43, of Sedalia, was transported to the Pettis County Jail pending a cash only bond of $119.00.
