Jacob Carver Named Sedalia’s Firefighter of the Year
Jacob Carver was named Sedalia Firefighter of the Year by Sedalia Fire Chief Matt Irwin during Monday night's City Council meeting.
“Jacob was introduced to fire service through our Sedalia Fire Department's Fire I and II Class. He has gone on to complete his associate's degree in fire science, as well as completing his bachelor's degree at UCM, and is currently adding prerequisite courses for his masters degree and PhD,” Irwin said.
“To say that Jacob has a larger-than-life personality is an understatement. His love for fire service and an unwavering dedication to the community is first rate. Always first to do the job that is less desireable, to spend the better part of two days in the fire pup suit during the (Sedalia Area Chamber of Commerce's) balloon and kite festival. He was also the leading dog in a parade, in what we believe was the first and only parade that our firefighters have actually led.
“He has gone on to deliver top-quality fire prevention talks and tours with kids and adults alike. A large portion of the SFD's social media posts are drawn up and delivered by Jacob. Jacob is a breath of fresh air around the fire station. I truly appreciate him, and it is an honor and privilege to award him Firefighter of the Year,” Chief Irwin concluded.
First Ward Councilman Tom Oldham added that Firefighter Carver is also an author, having written and published The ABCs of Firefighting, now available at Target, Walmart and Amazon.
"I’d just like to thank Chief Irwin and Chief Shaw for allowing me to grow fire prevention and community education. Our department has had an established prevention month In October but it’s been fun being able to develop programs and be active in the community year round as well as starting educating adults as well. Fire safety is important for everyone and I’m honored to serve this community," Carver told KSIS on Wednesday morning.
Jacob is married to his wife Montana Carver.
