Sedalia Man Arrested in Domestic Violence Case
An arrest has been made in an officer-involved shooting that took place Wednesday morning when Sedalia Police responded to a domestic violence call at 9:54 a.m., at 1001 block of Garfield.
Upon arrival, a male subject exited the residence and entered a 2001 red Chevy Silverado pickup in an effort to flee the scene.
Officers then returned to their patrol vehicles and a pursuit began, traveling south on Garfield. Then at a stop sign, the suspect put his truck in reverse and struck one of the patrol vehicles that were pursuing him.
The officer was standing behind the truck and on his radio giving Joint Communications the truck’s license plate number. He tried to move out of the way, but the Silverado struck him, according to the probable cause statement filed May 7.
The officer then fired his weapon at the suspect at 10:02 a.m.
The officer gave Strickland verbal commands to stop and broke the driver's seat window with a baton, but Strickland sped away, traveling south on South Garfield.
The officer initiated a chase, and at the stop sign on South Garfield Avenue at East 16th Street, Strickland placed his vehicle into reverse and accelerated backwards toward the officer's vehicle, according to the probable cause statement.
The officer also put his vehicle into reverse, but could not avoid Strickland's truck ramming him, according to the statement. The crash caused significant damage to the front of the patrol car.
Strickland continued to accelerate backward, leaving black marks on the pavement, and pushed the officer's vehicle about 120 feet, the statement said. The officer then fired his weapon at Strickland at 10:02 a.m.
The suspect was taken into custody at that location, and the officers then realized the suspect had been shot.
Both the suspect and the officer were transported to area hospitals for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, the Patrol said.

33-year-old Justin Strickland now faces multiple charges, including 1st degree assault special victim, 2nd degree felony assault, 3rd degree aggravated assault, felony resisting arrest, aggravated fleeing, armed criminal action, leaving the scene of an accident exceeding $1,000 damage, and 1st degree property damage.
The Patrol noted that the DDC is investigating the shooting, while the SPD is investigating the domestic violence call.
A final report will be forwarded to the Pettis County Prosecutor's Office for review.
Note: Strickland was booked in at the Pettis County Jail on May 8 with no bond after he was released from Western Missouri Medical Center.
