Caught! Warrensburg Police Foil $40,000 ATV Burglary
Last Thursday, November 7, 2024, Warrensburg Police foiled a burglary in progress at a motorcycle dealership, recovered over $40,000 in stolen ATVs and a U-Haul trailer, and apprehended five suspects.
According to the Warrensburg Police Department's Facebook page, during his early morning patrol around 2:30 AM CST, Corporal Townsend spotted several suspects loading ATVs into a U-Haul at Warrensburg Cycle, 1105 Stahl Drive, and reported the break-in.
He waited for backup from officers Miller and Morris and UCM Department of Public Safety Officer Douglas to ensure a strategic response. Working together, the team apprehended five suspects and pursued several on foot as they attempted to flee.
Detectives from Warrensburg and officers from the University of Central Missouri Department of Public Safety and the Johnson County Sheriff's Office supported the investigation, helped secure the area, processed evidence, and coordinated with victims and prosecutors.
Their efforts led to the recovery of over $40,000 in stolen ATVs and a stolen U-Haul. The Warrensburg Police Department says this outcome reflects the dedication and teamwork of each officer involved. The department is grateful for the strong partnerships between the Warrensburg Police Department and other agencies across Johnson County.
In other news, the Warrensburg Police Department announced the promotion of officers Townsend and Morris, both involved in the above story, to Corporal. Officer Hanna Sawyer also moves to the WPD Investigations Division as the department's newest detective.
