Congratulations to Powell Gardens, which picked up a Missouri's Best award from Missouri Magazines for Best Botanical Garden in the Community and Education section of the awards. The award comes just in time for Powell Garden's Evergy Festival of Lights.

According to the Powell Gardens website, Powell Gardens is a non-profit public garden established in 1988 that maintains 970 acres of lush, rolling hills and windswept meadows. More than 175 acres and an extensive collection of plants are also open to the public for education, exploration, and recreation. Many plants are regionally native, highlighting the changing seasons within the Midwest spirit of place.

During the Evergy Festival of Lights, holiday lights turn Powell Gardens into a winter wonderland. This year, a new path highlights the Marjorie Powell Allen Chapel as it winds through the Marlese Lowe Gourley Island Garden.

Yet, Powell Gardens Festival of Lights is much more than walking around a garden path decked with Christmas lights.

  • Powell Gardens' glass-domed Conservatory has been transformed through a walk-through snow globe experience.
  • The Royal Purple Smoketree in the Visitor Center Tram Circle has been transformed into a Magic Tree for the holidays!
  • During your Powell Gardens experience, you will find places to stop for the perfect holiday photo for your family.
  • A Light Maze that will get you lost in the magic of the season as you try to find your way to the sparkling center.
  • Santa will be at his workshop in the Children's Garden on Fridays and Saturdays starting November 29th.

Various special festival events will be held, which you can check out on the Powell Gardens website.
