The Old Farmer's 2025 Almanac was released in late August, and the best way to sum up their October forecast is to prepare for fake fall, one last blast of warmth, before cooler temperatures and showers prevail.

You may already have noticed that it is getting darker earlier and that the weather is changing. Mornings can be a little chilly, especially if you're out in flip-flops and shorts. I think the temperature one morning was 46. It's cooling off nicely in the evenings, too. I am back to jeans and dockers for work, abandoning my late summer choice of shorts until next year.

The Old Farmer's 2025 Almanac says we can expect warm temperatures and isolated showers as we move into the second half of September, followed by cooler weather and lots of sun the last week of the month. Precipitation for the rest of the month will be below average, with average highs around 69. I think they're underselling the temperature in our part of Missouri, as we're sitting in the 80s as I write this.

I am more interested in October's forecast as we move towards fall. The Old Farmer's Almanac says the first week of October will turn chilly with plenty of sun. That's what I'm calling fake fall. Then, we'll warm up during the second week with rainy periods, and the warm temperatures will hang around as we head into the second half of the month with the sun returning.

According to The Old Farmer's Almanac, fall temperatures will return as we head into the last third of the month, along with some showers, and it will turn chilly as we head into Halloween week. They suggest temperatures around 59 and three inches of precipitation for October.

Regarding the outlook beyond October, The Old Farmer's Almanac predicts that our winter will be warmer than usual, with precipitation and snowfall below average and a warm April and May. They also predict that our coldest and snowiest periods will be in late January and early and late February.

The bottom line is that we will get some of everything over the next six weeks. So, get a sweater or a hoody ready, and don't forget to keep the umbrella handy.
