I would make a terrible cashier. How do I know? I've gone through self-checkout so many times and it's almost always been a miserable experience. For people like me, it's great news that a Missouri store is about to remove all of its self-checkout lanes and it appears to be the first of many that will do so.

I saw this story just shared by MSN that broke the news that a Walmart Supercenter in St. Louis County, Missouri just zonked all of its self-checkout lanes. It's the Walmart located at 7437 Watson Road in Shrewsbury, Missouri.

The report says that the self-checkout removal at this Missouri Walmart will begin this Sunday, April 14, 2024. It will take a full two week period to be complete.

The MSN story quotes a Walmart representative that explained why they decided self-checkout was not the future it was once thought to be saying "We believe the change will improve the in-store shopping experience and give our associates the chance to provide more personalized and efficient service.”

There is no definitive answer if this removal of self-checkout lanes at this St. Louis, Missouri area Walmart will be the first of many or just an initial experiment to see what the customer response is.

This appears to be a possible trend as there has been push-back from customers who do not like less human checkout cashiers with self-checkout lanes replacing them. It will be interesting to see how those in favor of self-checkout options respond to this change in Missouri stores.
