Heat is On – Missouri Just Days Away from 100 Degree Temperatures
Summer won't officially arrive for a couple of weeks, but the heat isn't waiting. Missouri looks to be just days away from triple digit temperatures based on new forecasts and computer models.
My wife (the meteorologist) noticed there were new heat maps shared by Pivotal Weather which shows 100 degree temperatures possible in parts of Missouri by June 17.
There's another model showing northwestern Missouri possibly seeing 100 degree temperatures as soon as this coming week.
Even the typically conservative National Weather Service in St. Louis is calling for 90 degree temperatures for many parts of Missouri over the next few days.
Would 100 degree temperatures in Missouri this week set a record?
Not quite. The National Weather Service in St. Louis shows that Cape Girardeau's earliest ever 100 degree temperature recorded was June 11, 1977. Poplar Bluff had a triple digit day in late May - specifically on May 30, 1934.
It doesn't look like this incoming heat wave will last long as temperatures are expected to drop back down closer to normal later in June around the official start of summer on June 21. However, plan on true heat in most parts of Missouri for the next week or two.
The (Missouri) heat is indeed on.
