What is a narcissist?

Help Guide defines a narcissist this way:

people with narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) are in love with an idealized, grandiose image of themselves.

Counseling Psychology just shared a new study that measured where the narcissists live. Notice the darker states on this map and their proximity to Missouri.

According to their science, Iowa is #2 when it comes to total narcissists and Illinois is in the top 11.

The Help Guide says that a narcissist "exploits others without guilt or shame". I cast no stones at any individuals I know, but I think everyone can safely say they either have or have had someone in their life that matches this description.

For the record, Arkansas and Kansas show up pretty high on the narcissist ranking, too. That's the original point I was making. Narcissists surround Missouri, but if we're being honest with ourselves, ALL of us have the potential to be a narcissist in a small or a big way. We all have the opportunity to treat people in a kind way or be abusive. Maybe the best use of this map is to remind all of us to make the right decision. The world would become a better place if we did.
