The internet thinks it knows the best county to live in for the state of Missouri. What the internet likely doesn't realize is their recommendation also used to be the home of notorious outlaws Bonnie & Clyde.

I want to be clear that I'm not saying the internet got this one wrong. Most of the trendy people would likely agree that counties in the Kansas City area would be fine candidates for 'best county to live in' honors like the one just handed out by 24/7 Wall St. The one they picked for Missouri has...an interesting history to say the least.

What is the best county to live in in Missouri?

24/7 Wall St (not me) says it's Platte County, Missouri.

Let's look at some Platte County, Missouri history, shall we? The Red Crown Tourist Court in Platte City, Missouri as the site of a gun battle between Bonnie & Clyde on July 20, 1933. Nothing says great place to live quite like a gun battle downtown, right? Yes, a little sarcasm here.

The good news is that Platte City (and county for that matter) can celebrate the fact that their area was indeed the beginning of the end of the outlaw pursuits of Bonnie & Clyde.

If you look at modern day Platte County, Missouri, you can understand why it's now ranked as a great place to live. Very low poverty rate of only 6% and life expectancy into the 80's are very good things. The fact that there's some interesting gangster history there just adds to the character of that part of Missouri.
