Fall officially arrived nearly a month ago even though the temperatures remained unseasonably warm. That's about to change big time as Missouri is about to experience a 30-degree temperature plunge and we may not see summer-like temps again this year.

As I write this, Missouri is experiencing near-record highs in the low 90's in some places. Remember that warmth because it will soon disappear. The National Weather Service in St. Louis summed it up with a nice little graphic.

How drastic the temperature fall will be for you will depend on where you live in Missouri, but generally speaking expect a high in the 90's on Tuesday before it nosedives to a high of 60 by Friday and the upcoming weekend. It's worth noting that many parts of Missouri will see lows in the 40's starting Friday, too. That's not quite freezing temperatures, but just cold enough that you'll want to be aware if you're a gardener.

But, wait, the heat may not be done with Missouri just yet

The 8 to 14 day outlook from NOAA's Climate Prediction Center shows Missouri is squarely in the heart of the region expected to see higher than average temperatures later in October.

I'm not a fan of winter and/or snow, but I also don't enjoy sky-high utility bills for air conditioning. Can't we have a happy in-between climate for a change? That likely won't happen anytime soon as Missouri specializes in weather and temperature extremes.
