Forecasters Warn Missouri Could Have Supercell Threat Friday
We are about to exit from the time of year where we watch potential winter storms developing to supercells bringing strong thunderstorms to Missouri. That's what we're looking at later this week as there's already an advisory from forecasters saying Missouri could see a real supercell threat on Friday including strong winds, large hail and even possibly tornadoes.
It's unusual to see the NOAA Storm Prediction Center issue this kind of advisory this many days away from Friday. They have placed nearly half of Missouri under the region where they believe supercells will develop on Friday, March 6, 2026. NOTE: the yellow area is where there is a 15% probability for severe thunderstorms within 25 miles of locations within that yellow field.
The Storm Prediction Center says this huge swath across Missouri will be "favorable for supercells with large hail. Wind damage and tornadoes will also be possible with supercells". They're not the only ones who are warning of a rowdy line of storms on Friday. Digital meteorologist Ryan Hall also pointed at this Friday as being a potential explosive day of storms.
I've seen several weather sites on social media picking up on a very active storm day on Friday.
Should you be worried about weather in Missouri this Friday?
Absolutely not. What you should do is realize that there is a potential for serious weather across much of Missouri on Friday. Be ready to act if severe thunderstorm or tornado warnings are issued by the National Weather Service and know they are possible. That's my sole reason for sharing weather information with you.
