Only 7 Stores Remain of This Once Popular Missouri Retail Store
The store may be a sponsor of one of the biggest parades in the country, but currently, there are only seven left open in Missouri and the once-retail giant just announced it's cutting over 2,000 jobs in 2024.
Macy's was, like many giant retail stores, once a massive place to shop for clothes, shoes, and everything in between. However, just like many stores, the company had to close several of its flagship stores county-wide. Now, there are only several remaining in Missouri and the retail giant just announced it will be cutting 2,350 jobs and closing five stores.
There is Good News
None of the stores closing are in Missouri. According to Time,
Two stores in California, San Leandro and Simi Valley, will be impacted, along with the Tallahassee store in Florida, the Lihue store in Hawaii, and the Arlington store in Virginia.
Currently, the locations of the Missouri Macy's are:
- Chesterfield (1)
- St. Louis (1)
- Des Peres (1)
- Kansas City (1)
- Richmond Heights (1)
- St. Peters (1)
- Springfield (1)
As of right now, there is no news on any of the Missouri stores closing. The company is in transition as a new CEO will be taking over next month.
The layoffs come as the company prepares for a transition in CEOs. In February, Tony Spring will become the new chief executive as Jeff Gennette, who has been CEO since 2017, steps down.
It will be very interesting to see if these are the only closures and layoffs that happen in 2024. It's sad to see a store that is such an icon that is Macy's fall on hard times, hopefully, it won't end up like Sears and close all locations.
