A new ten-million-dollar manufacturing facility for Impact Signs  Wraps and Awnings, Inc., has been completed after 14 months of construction.

The company's new 52,000-square-foot headquarters is now located at the front of Thompson Meadows Industrial Drive, facing US Highway 50, at 819 Curry Drive, occupying five-and-a half acres.

Impact Signs was previously located on North Highway 65, north of Sedalia.

The 27-year-old company began as “Sticker Boy Sign Company” and owned by CEO David Goodson.

Construction was originally expected to take between 10 and 12 months.

The announcement for the company's expansion was made on Sept. 28, 2022 at State Fair Community College.

“This expansion is a direct response to the increased demand of our products & services. Last year, Impact provided sign products & services to 13 different states, in 209 cities and represented over 1,000 projects. We offer visual communication and branding solutions that are specific to our client needs. Our goal is to help each of our customers elevate their brands and businesses to the next level,” Goodson said on that occasion.

Goodson promised a state-of-the-art wrap bay at the new facility, “probably the best wrap bay in the United States” with humidity control, temperature control and proper lighting. “We will continue to have customers coming from all around, bringing big vehicles here to be wrapped and continue to put out great product and ship out around the country,” he said.

On Thursday afternoon, we spoke with Goodson to get his reaction to the new headquarters:

“I'm extremely proud of everybody, my family, the folks who work here every day, who design, build and create – they're just an incredibly talented group of people,” Goodson said.

When asked if it was an emotional day for him, Goodson replied “It is and it isn't, I mean I don't think I've had a chance for it all to sink in, it's happening so fast … but it's certainly humbling. I'm absolutely amazed at the people who came out – our customers who traveled hours to be here, people who traveled from out of state – Texas, Iowa all around Missouri. I'm blown away by the people who respect our company, our work and our relationships enough to travel in for a couple-hour event.”

Goodson noted that Impact Signs works all over the US, and “we're proud to say we built it right here in Pettis County. You know our motto is “any sign, anywhere” that's our hash tag. And we truly live by that.”

David, along with his wife Julie own the company. “We don't have investors or partners or things of that nature. We started in my garage 27 years ago and we've grown to be one of the leaders in the nation at what we do,” Goodson told KSIS.

The increase in price from $8 million to $10 million was not a surprise to Goodson, due to change orders and add-ons, etc. “That just adds up fast,” he said, adding that the steel market was very volatile at the time of construction. “Probably the biggest cost difference we saw was in concrete – just an enormous amount of money difference in concrete. I know there's about a million dollars worth of it right here.”

Goodson thanked all his customers and workers. “We wouldn't be here without great employees and customers. We love Sedalia, and that's why we are an advocate for making Sedalia better,” Goodson concluded, adding that he currently has around 56 employees on the payroll. “And we're growing, so about this time next year, probably around 75.”

When asked if he feels his employees love their job, Goodson replied “I would like to think so, a lot of them have been with me for a long time, and our goal is to make this the best place in Pettis County to work.”

Sedalia-Pettis County Economic Development Executive Director Jessica Craig said that she was excited to officially launch and hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony and grand opening for Impact Signs, referring to Impact as the most innovative sign company in the US.

Craig noted that when she asked about Goodson's five-year plan for his company, he said he wanted to expand. Part of EDSPC's involvement with existing companies is to help formulate a five-year plan for future growth.

She added that Impact is a perfect example of buying locally and growing the local economy, adding that the high-visibility site of the new Impact headquarters is a wonderful showpiece for the community.

Craig noted that Thompson Meadows Industrial Park still has about 100 acres available for development.

Guest speakers for Thursday's program included State Rep. Brad Pollitt, Pettis County Presiding Commissioner Bill Taylor, MU Athletics Director Larry Veach, retired UCM and MU Basketball Coach Kim Anderson, National Sprint Car Hall of Fame Executive Director Bob Baker and MIAA Commissioner Mike Racy.
