Horace Mann Elementary School bilingual interpreter Mireya Cano-Romero is the recipient of the Superintendent’s Bell Ringer Award for March.

The monthly award is a way for Superintendent Steve Triplett to honor Sedalia 200 staff members who put the district’s mission statement into action and those who display exemplary effort in celebrating student success. Winners are selected from nominations made by staff members and administrators.

The nominator for Cano-Romero wrote: “Mireya has been a huge asset to the Horace Mann family. She is the translator for our building and has built amazing relationships with our students and their parents. Mireya works with our Hispanic families to help them understand what is going on in our building, works with students who may need some extra help, and translates many papers and notes for the teachers. She always lets the students know how proud she is of their achievements. Mireya is a very positive person and her energy radiates throughout the building."

Triplett said, “Ensuring that all students have opportunities to succeed is a priority for our district, so the relationships that Ms. Cano-Romero builds with both students and their families are vital to that mission. We are fortunate to have such a caring and motivated person in this key position in our district."

Other nominees for March were Kaitlyn Evans, Monica Harris and Stella Toderescu-Stavila, Smith-Cotton Junior High; Shellene Dore and Kathy Garrison, Sedalia Middle School; Marianne Weathers, Horace Mann Elementary; Sheri Kemp and Tricia Grotzinger, Heber Hunt Elementary; Kaylin Tilley and Ashley Klein, Parkview Elementary; and Michelle Jackson, Washington Elementary.
