Watch Chris Stapleton’s Stunning Live Aretha Franklin Tribute
Chris Stapleton is one of the many country artists who have stepped up to honor the late Aretha Franklin following her death on Thursday (Aug. 16). Readers can press play above to watch Stapleton's live cover of "Do Right Woman, Do Right Man."
On the same day that the "Queen of Soul" passed away, Stapleton performed his version of "Do Right Woman, Do Right Man" during his show at the Mattress Firm Amphitheater in Chula Vista, Calif. His rendition of the song is gritty, powerful and stunning.
"We lost a legend today. In my opinion, the greatest singer that ever lived," Stapleton tells the crowd before he begins the song. "We'll do our best to make a tribute to her tonight."
"Do Right Woman, Do Right Man" was originally recorded by Franklin in 1967. Willie Nelson recorded his own version of the song and included it on his 1982 release Always on My Mind.
Franklin was 76 at the time of her death and was reported to be "gravely ill" earlier in the week. The first woman to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Franklin charted more than 100 singles on Billboard's charts and won 18 Grammy Awards. Her iconic songs include "Respect," "Think" and many more.
