Those watching Monday night's (June 5) Stanley Cup Final game between the Nashville Predators and the Pittsburgh Penguins got a nice surprise during the first intermission: Carrie Underwood spoke with NBC's NHL intermission panel and revealed that she will be returning to sing the Sunday Night Football theme song for the 2017-2018 season.

Underwood snuck the news of her SNF return in at the very end of her interview with NBC's Liam McHugh and Mike Milbury. Monday night's NHL playoffs game was being broadcast on NBC, the network home for Sunday Night Football.

Underwood has sung the Sunday Night Football theme song for four years, since taking over for Faith Hill in 2013. For the 2016-2017 NFL season, Underwood replaced the old SNF theme, "Waiting All Day for Sunday Night," with "Oh, Sunday Night;" the new tune is a remake of Underwood's "Somethin' Bad," originally a collaboration with Miranda Lambert. Underwood worked with the writers of "Somethin' Bad" — Chris DeStefano, Brett James and Priscilla Renea — to re-work the lyrics.

Career-wise, Underwood has been laying low since the start of 2017; however, she's been busy in recent weeks cheering on her husband, Predators captain Mike Fisher, as the team makes a run for the Stanley Cup.
