The St. Louis Cardinals will replace the Yankees as the Chicago White Sox opponent at the "Field of Dreams" movie site game in Iowa this August. This according to a report from the St. Louis Post Dispatch's Derrick Goold.

Originally the Yankees were set to play the White Sox on August 13 in Dyersville, Iowa where the movie was shot. However, with the coronavirus forcing Major League Baseball to shorten the season and limit play to teams in one's own division and the same division in the opposite league it means the White Sox will not be playing the Yankees this year.

My first instinct as a Cubs fan is why not have the Cubs play the Cardinals at the field of dreams? Then I remembered Shoeless Joe Jackson and the 1919 Black Sox scandal plays into the film. So yeah, you have to have the White Sox as one of the teams.

Then I found Dyersville, Iowa on a map. Based on it's location, I suspect Cardinals Nation is represented strongly there. I've lived a lot of places, and Iowa was the last place I expected to see Cards fans. Yet, I got more flack from Cardinals fans in Iowa for wearing my Cubs hat or jacket, than I have here in Sedalia or Warrensburg for wearing Cubs or Royals gear.

So the Cardinals playing the White Sox at the Field of Dreams makes perfect sense to me.

Major League Baseball hasn't officially announced the game yet, but the White Sox and Yankees were going to play on a field that played homage to Comiskey Park where the White Sox and Shoeless Joe Jackson played.

The field was going to be built on farm land adjacent to the "Field of Dreams" movie site with stands to accommodate 8,000 fans. Ticket sales for the game had not been announced before the coronavirus pandemic, and it remains to be seen whether fans will be in attendance there or not.

Another note from Goold in the story says Major League Baseball will officially be releasing the 2020 schedule as early as Monday. Goold says the unofficial version of the schedule has the Cardinals opening at Busch Stadium on Friday July 24.
