Airman Based at Whiteman Air Force Base Found Dead in Leeton Home [UPDATED]
UPDATE: The victim has been identified as 31-year-old Staff Sargent Chad Blackwell. Detective Ken Landes of the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department told KSIS in a telephone interview that the Johnson County Coroner has ruled the death a suicide.
Landes also said their investigation was pretty well completed, but Whiteman AFB Authorities is conducting a follow-up investigation.

Authorities have launched an investigation after an airman based at Whiteman Air Force Base was found dead on Sunday (Feb. 25) in his home in Leeton, Mo.
According to the Associated Press, the victim's identity and cause of death have not been released yet, but Whiteman spokeswoman Jennifer Green said in a release on Monday that the victim was a member of the 509th Maintenance Group.
The Johnson County Sheriff's Department is leading the investigation since the incident occurred off of the base.
