My father's side of the family were blue collar workers.  Most of my uncles, and cousins and my dad knew how to get their hands dirty.  They had an uncanny knack to be able to build and fix just about anything.  I think they would have loved the opportunity to take a 171 year old horse stable and former carriage house into a popular restaurant.  Have you heard about The Vintage 1847 Restaurant on the Stone Hill Winery in Hermann? It is a sight to check out.

In 1979, the Held family transformed the winery’s former carriage house and horse barn into Vintage Restaurant. Vintage features delicious German dishes, along with house favorites served by friendly staff. It is located on the Stone Hill Winery property.

It certainly is a unique dining experience, and you can see that the place is quite large.  When you dine, if you grab a booth, just know that they used to be horse stalls.  They do look quite cozy.  The tables have lanterns for lighting.

The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner and you can check out their lunch menu HERE and the dinner menu HERE.  For starters, you know that since this place is German you can enjoy the pretzels, or their famous Kartoffelpuffer. Crispy house-made potato pancakes with bacon and scallions topped with spiced apple chutney and bacon crumbles. Paired with wine of course.

Perhaps you would enjoy the Stone Hills Famous French Onion soup that they talk about so much. Or go with the soup of the day.

I have been told that you really cannot get a bad meal here.  The Vintage Burger looks pretty tasty.  2 patties, bacon jam, garlic aioli, onion ring, lettuce.  Yes please.

Perhaps pork tenderloin is more your taste?  And the ribeye is popular too. Lots of daily specials and seasonal ones.  Weekend specials for sure.
