‘Wet Hot American Summer’ TV Series in Development at Netflix?

Wet Hot American Summer Sequel Prequel Netflix TV Series
USA Films

Netflix has long since earned its reputation as the patron saint of canceled TV series, owing to its resurrections of both ‘Arrested Development‘ and ‘The Killing,’ but the latest property pulled from the scrap heap is wet, hot, and altogether unexpected. Might Netflix look to reunite the A-list (and 40+) cast of cult classic ‘Wet Hot American Summer’ for a prequel TV series?

Emerging out of Variety, sources claim that Netflix may run with the long-simmering prequel follow-up to the 2001 David Wain-Michael Showalter classic, developing the property as a TV series that would reunite much of the film’s original cast, playing high-schoolers in spite of their advanced ages. For the moment at least Netflix has declined to comment on the possibility.

For those unfamiliar with the comedy, the original ‘Wet Hot American Summer’ featured an incredible cast of then-affordable stars that included ‘Ant-Man”s Paul Rudd, ‘Guardians of the Galaxy”s Bradley Cooper, ‘Parks and Recreation”s Amy Poeher, ‘Walk of Shame”s Elizabeth Banks, ‘Marry Me”s Ken Marino, ‘SNL”s Molly Shannon, ‘Law and Order: SVU”s Christopher Meloni, Janeane Garofalo, ‘Frasier”s David Hyde Pierce, ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine”s Joe Lo Truglio, Michael Ian Black, and Showalter himself. Like ‘Arrested Development’ it seems plausible that only select cast members would reunite at a time, given the complicated scheduling.

We’ve included the original trailer below, but what do you think? Would you want to see Netflix putting together a ‘Wet Hot American Summer’ prequel series?
