Sedalia hosted many bikers on Saturday (June 15) for a special salute to the Patriot Guard Riders. State Representative and Chairman of the Missouri House Veterans Committee Charlie Davis organized the Patriot Guard Summer Rally to show appreciation for the riders who honor military families at funerals, participate in parades and support the military.
Three days, over a dozen of country music's top artists and 23,000 screaming country music fans helped make the first-ever Taste of Country Music Festival an undeniable success. Headliners Willie Nelson, Trace Adkins and Lady Antebellum led the way in 2013, but the fans were every bit as important to the party as the music.
Recently we've been discussing the best things about summer, like Slip N' Slides and lemonade. OH yes. But with the good obviously comes the bad, and in this case, the really bad. Brace yourself folks, because we've scoped out some pretty awful sunburn fails we never want to experience. Oof.
I attended my daughter's first ballet with the Studio A Dance Conservatory last weekend at the in the Heckart Performing Arts Center at Smith-Cotton High School. The Studio A Dance Conservatory is led by Anna Crumley. This was the third year for this event, so the theme was “Third Time's a Charm.” Over 120 kids had been practicing ballet, tap, hip hop, point, freelance and more since August for this one moment to shine.
Kids, this weekend I got to head out to the Sedalia DQ Grill & Chill. Now, normally I would be there to stuff my face, but this time I was there for a more important calling.
Jorge and the crew at DQ were hosting the folks and vehicles for the upcoming Midwest Dragfest. This is going to be a huge event coming up on June 1 and 2 on the Fairgrounds. And, the best part is, they're going to be doing this for charity. They're going to be raising money for the Children's Therapy Center and the Sedalia Food Bank. I think everybody can agree those are great causes to support, and if you can do it in a fun way, even better!
Kids, I got to kick off Memorial Day weekend just right with a live broadcast out at America's Car-Mart. They had the grill fired up and ready before I even got there, cooking up burgers, brats, and hot dogs. We gave away shirts and tickets and had a grand ol' time while keeping people abreast of the latest deals. Check out some pictures I took! You'll notice one specific visitor, Winston the Pit Pup. His family came out to Car-Mart just to say hello, and get some grub before the weekend started.
The 2013 Show Me Honor Flight veterans returned to Sedalia late last night after their trip to visit their memorials in Washington D.C. With financial support from the community, the veterans visited the WW II, Korean and Vietnam war memorials.
Here are photos from their homecoming celebration provided by Kevin Walker.
Kids, last Friday I got to head out to Menard's and check out the very latest in their outdoor sales! They always look to help out Sedalians by lowering prices whenever they can, especially on all the stuff you'll need for the season.
So while I did spend most of my time ogling all the beautiful stuff in the Garden Center, I did wander the store a little bit, and took some pictures while I was at it!
A massive tornado touched down just south of Oklahoma City on Monday, killing dozens.
At least seven of those killed were students at Plaza Towers Elementary School in Moore. The twister, which measured 2 miles at one point, has been given a preliminary classification of an EF-4 tornado (winds of 166 to 200 mph), according to weather officials.
