I live not far from the main thoroughfare in Sedalia known as 65 highway or Limit street.  It's one of the major streets in town, most people know it.  And for some reason, often on the weekend, I will hear loud sounds coming from this general vicinity   It sounds like a car speeding along the street.  It sounds like tires squealing.  It sounds like loud music in car stereos.  Maybe you guys can explain it to me.

Kids, this Valentine's Day I'm on my own, but not really.  If that makes sense.  I've got a lovely boyfriend, but he lives out of town and we see each other on weekends.  So this Thursday, a.k.a. Valentine's Day, I'm gonna be on my own.  So here's basically how I'm going to spend it, and you can either laugh at my dorkiness or get an idea of what to do yourself.

Kids, I am a person who is just as romantical as the next jerk.  But, I can't say that I see Valentine's Day as anything to get all hepped up and romantified about.

I mean, really.  Do you know who St. Valentine is?  Do you know how St. Valentine somehow means you give cards and candy?  Is there anything particularly amazing about this Thursday than last Thursday?  Do you love your partner any less or more today than you did, say, Wednesday?  So what difference does it make?  I am a person who believes in appreciating your partner all year 'round, not just on one or two days a year.

So, having said that, I'm going to give three awesome ideas for something much better to do on Valentine's day than the standard boring gestures of "romance."

Kids, I am not a sporty person. I just don't have much of the competitive drive. So I don't really care who wins or loses, and therefore I find I can't root for somebody in sports.  I don't know what it is, but it's just not there for me.

Now having said that, I did watch the football game this week. My ever patient boyfriend sat next to me and attempted to explain things here and there. He did his best to answer my questions ("Is that a camera robot?  Why did that one guy throw a yellow thing? Why do they keep losing their helmets?"). We were in a meeting and talking about all things Christmas when the topic of trees came up.  I mentioned that I am actually putting a tree up this year.  Behka mentioned that she didn't have one.  I remembered that she lived in the Mark Twain Apartments and thought she may have lost hers in the fire, so I offered her a small fiber optic tree that someone gave me last year.  She refused it saying she didn't want a tree.  I was aghast! I had no idea she was a "Scrooge".
