The victim of a shooting that occurred Thursday afternoon at Sunset Village Trailer Park has been identified as 28-year old Leon Hinckley, of Windsor.

When authorities arrived on scene, Hinckley was outside a residence with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to Bothwell Regional Health Center, by PCAD, where he later died from his injuries.

A press release from the Pettis County Sheriff's Department says that deputies are continuing the investigation into Thursday's shooting death. On Friday (Aug 18), Pettis County Coroner Robert "Skip" Smith released the identity of Hinckley.

Pettis County authorities say that on Thursday night, investigators returned and processed a 2012 Chevrolet Impala, which was recovered in Lexington earlier that afternoon. The vehicle, which was reported stolen by its owner from Sedalia, is believed to have been used in the incident.

An autopsy was conducted Friday morning by the Boone County Medical Examiner's Office in Columbia, but preliminary results were not available at the time of this report. Deputies have interviewed a number of witnesses and continue to follow-up on leads in the case.

Pettis County Sheriff Kevin Bond stated that neither the victim nor the two suspects, a white male and a black male, resided at the residence where the shooting occurred. Law enforcement says it is believed that both suspects have fled the area and are no longer in Sedalia or Pettis County.

Anyone with information on the case, is urged to the call the Pettis County Sheriff's Department at 660-827-0052 or the Crime Stoppers Hotline at 660-827-TIPS.
