Shania Twain to Perform New Music at Stagecoach 2017
Fans have been eagerly awaiting new music from Shania Twain for, literally, years now — and they’ll get to hear it at the 2017 Stagecoach Country Music Festival. In two new interviews, Twain opened up about her next record and headlining the annual country music festival.
According to the Press-Enterprise, a reporter for which spoke to Twain ahead of her performance at Stagecoach 2017, the country star will drop “a couple” of her new songs into her set at the festival. The singer tells ET that she’s planning to release her new single in June and will debut it during her Saturday night (April 29) headlining set.
“I’m kicking off the summer with a new song,” Twain explains, “and then I’m finishing the summer with the release of the album.”
The Press-Enterprise notes that Twain’s album is due out in the fall; that’s a change from Rolling Stone‘s February report that it would be out in May.
“I let the songwriting lead the way and let the stories go where they wanted to go,” Twain says of the album. “I wanted to make sure I nurtured the authenticity and the acoustic elements in the album … I wanted to be true to my influences and to myself, and, stylistically, it just ended up being very diverse from one song to the next.”
Shania Twain Through the Years
Twain calls her forthcoming new record “an exercise in independence,” noting that it took “a huge leap of courage” for her to create the project alone, after working with her now-ex-husband, producer Robert John “Mutt” Lange, since 1995’s The Woman in Me.
“I just kept challenging myself,” Twain says, “and telling myself, ‘Okay, you’re going to write this album and we’ll find out what you’re made of these days.’”
In addition to Twain, Dierks Bentley and Kenny Chesney are headlining the 2017 Stagecoach Country Music Festival. It will be Twain’s first time headlining the festival, located in Indio, Calif., and her first major show since the end of her Rock This Country Tour in late 2015.
“I’m so excited because I’ve heard a lot about Stagecoach over all of these years, and I really can’t believe that I’m only doing it now for the first time actually,” Twain says. “It’s never too late for firsts.”
