Sedalia Police Reports for October 30, 2023

Early Monday morning, Officers were dispatched to the 1400 block of East 14th Street for a report of a subject that was observed breaking into a vehicle. Officers established the perimeter of the area, and the drone was deployed. The subject was located using the drone. He matched the description of the subject seen breaking into vehicles on video. He was seen walking through various yards in the area, attempting to avoid law enforcement. Officers moved in on the suspect and placed him under arrest. Evan Christian Bankovich, 29, of Sedalia, was arrested for Tampering With the Property of Another in the 2nd Degree, and Resisting Arrest.

Officers were dispatched to the 2500 block of Dennis Road early Monday morning for a welfare check. During the course of the check, Officers discovered the caller had provided a false name. After discovering the caller’s actual name, his information was checked with Dispatch. It was discovered that the caller had an ex-parte against him by the person he had law enforcement check on. Charges are being submitted to the state prosecutor for Violation of a Court Order.

Saturday night, Officers were dispatched to the 500 block of East 12th Street in reference to a domestic disturbance. Officers spoke with David Joseph Whelan and his son. The two had gotten into a physical argument. They agreed to stay separated for the evening. A primary physical aggressor could not be determined. A 12 hour log was done to document the incident.

Sedalia Police responded to the Woods East store, 701 East Broadway Boulevard on Saturday evening for a theft report. The business reported a subject taking several cases of cupcakes and cakes, and then exiting the store without paying. Information for the report was collected.

Officers conducted a traffic stop Sunday morning on a vehicle that was failing to maintain the right half of the roadway. The stop was conducted near South Park Avenue and West 2nd Street. During the course of the investigation, it was discovered the driver has a suspended driving status. Kendra Lavatta Jordan, 30, of Sedalia, was arrested for Driving While Suspended. Jordan was transported to the Sedalia Police Department to be fingerprinted and issued a Uniform Traffic Ticket for DWS.

Early Sunday morning, Officers responded to the 900 block of Winchester Drive to investigate a disturbance. When Officers arrived on scene, contact was made with the victim. The victim stated she was punched in the face by an intoxicated male subject who had left the scene. A short while later, the male returned to the scene. James William Barker III, 21, of Sedalia, was arrested for Assault. Barker was issued a citation and released to a sober person.

Sedalia Police observed a subject walking in the middle of the highway near East Broadway Boulevard and South Center Avenue on Sunday morning. The subject was flailing his arms as a car went around him. He ignored traffic and kept drunkenly staggering away from Police. After hitting the air horn several times and yelling at him to stop, he did so. The subject smelled of intoxicants. Officers used Language Line, a translation app to attempt to communicate with the subject. He said he was going to a hotel, but walked in the incorrect direction. He then stated he was unable to get to his home safely. Roel Lopez Mendez, 21, no address listed, was placed under arrest. Mendez was placed into protective custody and put onto a 12-hour safekeeping hold at the Pettis County Jail.

Sunday morning, Officers were dispatched to the 1300 block of Madison Drive to investigate a theft. Arturo Uvario stated someone had stolen a firearm from his vehicle sometime overnight. A couple of hours later, Officers were dispatched 1500 block of Madison Avenue in regards to another theft. Ronald Thompson stated his vehicle was broken into in the overnight hours. Several items were stolen, with a reported combined value of $304.00. No suspect information is available at this time.

Officers responded to the 2100 block of South Harrison Avenue early Saturday morning for a report of a domestic assault. The victim stated her boyfriend/roommate had struck her in the head with an object, causing injury. The victim sustained an injury to the back of the head. She was transported by the Pettis County Ambulance District to the Bothwell Hospital for treatment. Rory A. Ridinger III, 24, of Sedalia, was arrested for Domestic Assault in the 2nd Degree. Ridinger was placed on a 24 hour hold at the Pettis County Jail.

Saturday afternoon, Officers responded to the 2500 block of Stacey Lane regarding a male subject laying on the ground by the dumpsters of the apartment complex. A male subject was located with a head wound. The subject was transported the BRHC for treatment. The report notes this is an ongoing investigation.

Friday night, Officers stopped a limousine driving in the 2800 block of South Limit Avenue because it had a headlight out. Officers checked the passenger’s information with Dispatch. Allison Marie Wood, 36, of Sedalia, had an active Failure to Appear Probation Violation warrant from Henry County on original charges of Non Support of a Minor Child. Bonnie Sue Sandifer, 65, of Sedalia, had a Failure to Appear warrant out of Benton County on original charges of Trespassing in the 1st Degree. Both were placed under arrest and transported to the Pettis County Jail. Wood’s bond was set at $1000 cash only, while Sandifer’s bond was set at $500 cash only. *

Officers took a theft report last Thursday evening from the Burger King restaurant, 1101 South Limit Avenue. Angel Thomas, an employee, stated she had placed her coat on the back of a chair in the establishment. A subject grabbed the coat on the way out. A report was collected.

Thursday afternoon, Officers were dispatched to the 1000 block of East 13th Street for a report of trespassing, as well as a dog bite. The reporting party stated a male subject was on their property, looking in their truck, when the dog got out and bit the subject on the leg. A trespass warning was issued to the subject, who was not named in the report. A dog bite report was also collected.

Sedalia Police took a theft report over the phone Friday evening from Jackie D. Gresham. Gresham stated items were taken from his garage without his knowledge. Information for the report was collected.

Friday night, a car was stopped at the Casey’s store, 1601 East Broadway Boulevard, after it was observed speeding. The vehicle was also driving with a headlight out. A passenger jumped out of the car and refused orders to get back into it. When attempting to arrest her, she resisted. Crystal Lorene Dillon, 34, of Sedalia, was arrested for Resisting Arrest. Dillon was transported to the Pettis County jail to be placed on a 24-hour hold.

Officers were dispatched to the area of West 5th Street and South Limit Avenue last Friday morning in reference to knife found in the roadway. On arrival, Officers located the knife. The knife was collected, and placed into found property.

Early Friday morning, Officers were dispatched to the 800 block of West 5th Street for a report of a burglary in progress. Officers arrived on scene, and set up a perimeter. Officers were able to make contact with one of the residents, and they allowed a search of the home and property. Nothing indicating a burglary was located. One of the residents had a Pettis County Warrant stemming from an arrest in June of 2023 for felony Possession of a Controlled Substance and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (Prior Drug Offense). Beverly Ann McCall, 68, of Sedalia, was arrested for her warrant, transported to the Pettis County Jail, and given a cash or surety bond of $7500. **

Friday morning, Sedalia Police responded to the Probation and Parole Office, 205 Thompson Road, for a report of trespassing. Upon arrival, contact was made with the intoxicated suspect. According to the probable cause statement, Officers had dealt with the suspect earlier that morning. Those calls involved the suspect pretending to try and carjack someone with an imaginary gun, striking a car as it passed by, and throwing cones and signs in the area. When Officers made contact with him for those incidents, he was not wearing a shirt, and was covered in his own blood. Officers spoke with Probation and Parole staff, who stated the suspect had become agitated by being asked to submit to urinalysis. The suspect had been throwing items around the office. He also had a drinking cup that he ended up putting through the hole in the window to the clerical room. The suspect was asked to leave, and refused. The suspect then spat through the hole in the front glass of the front desk, at the North Central Region Administrator with Probation and Parole. Brady Alan Allred, 32, of Sedalia, was arrested and transported to the Bothwell Regional Health Center for a fit for confinement check. Allred was then cleared, and transported to the Pettis County Jail. Allred was booked in on charges of Burglary in the 1st Degree and Assault in the 4th Degree. Allred was held pending a $25,00 cash or surety bond.

Friday morning, Officers were called to the 1600 block of South Moniteau Avenue for a report of harassment. Information was gathered for the involved parties, and the events that occurred. A report was completed to document the situation and events involved.
