Sunday morning, Officers observed a vehicle travelling eastbound on West Broadway Boulevard. The vehicle was failing to maintain its lane, and was also speeding. Officers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle near West Broadway Boulevard and Thompson Boulevard. During the course of the investigation, it was determined the driver was intoxicated. Sheyene Mattox, 31, of Sedalia, was arrested on a charge of Driving While Intoxicated. Mattox was transported to the Police Department, where he provided a breath sample that showed his BAC to be above 0.08. Mattox was fingerprinted, cited, and released to a sober driver.


 

On the night of January 26th, Officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle near South Grand Avenue and West 3rd Street for not properly displaying a registration plate. During the course of the investigation, it was determined the driver was intoxicated. Albert Eugene Nash, 28, of Sedalia, was arrested on a charge of Driving While Intoxicated. Nash was transported to the Bothwell Regional Health Center for a blood draw. Nash was then transported to the Pettis County Jail to be booked and released.


 

Early Thursday morning, Officers received a call regarding a metal/behavioral violent subject, near the 400 block of East Howard Street. Officers spoke with the subject, and he was then transported to the Bothwell Regional Health Center for treatment.


 

Sunday night, Officers were dispatched to the area of South Center Avenue and East 9th Street in reference to an intoxicated driver. During the course of the investigation, it was determined the driver was intoxicated. Brandon Morgan, 45, of Sedalia, was transported to the Police Department, where he refused to provide a breath sample. A search warrant was obtained, and a blood draw was conducted. Morgan was transported to the Pettis County Jail to be booked on a charge of Driving While Revoked, and a charge of felony Aggravated* Driving While Intoxicated. Morgan was booked and released. During the course of the investigation, it was discovered a witness had an outstanding warrant from Linn County. Kyle Meeks**, 19, of Springfield, was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail, pending a cash only bond of $250.00 for his Failure to Appear warrant on original charges of Careless and Imprudent Driving, Operating a Vehicle on the Highway Without a Valid License, and Failure to Wear Approved Headgear.

On the night of January 18th, Officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that had excessive window tint near South Osage Avenue and West 3rd Street. During the course of the investigation, it was determined the driver was intoxicated. John Benscoter, 52, of Sedalia, was arrested on a charge of Driving While Intoxicated. Benscoter was transported to the Police Department, where he provided a breath sample that showed his BAC to be above 0.08. Benscoter was fingerprinted, cited, and released to a sober driver.


 

Wednesday night, Officers received a call regarding a domestic disturbance near the 800 block of South Missouri Avenue. Officers spoke with both parties involved, and a primary aggressor could not be determined. A 12-hour rule was put in place.


 

Sunday evening, Officers conducted a traffic stop for not displaying a registration plate. The stop was conducted in the area of East Broadway Boulevard near South Marvin Avenue. During the course of the investigation, it was discovered the driver had a Failure to Appear warrant form Pettis County. The Failure to Appear warrant carried original charges of Operating a Motor Vehicle Without Maintaining Financial Responsibility, Failure to Register a Motor Vehicle, and Failure to Wear a Seat Belt. Jeffrey Caleb Rhoads, 33, of Smithton, was arrested and transported to the Petits County Jail to be booked, pending a $250 cash-only bond.


 

Sedalia Police conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle with expired registration that was believed to be driven by a subject with an outstanding warrant Saturday night. The stop was conducted near South Ohio Avenue and East 16th Street. During the course of the investigation, the warrant was confirmed, and the driver was determined to be intoxicated. The driver’s mother then walked onto the scene, and began to interfere. Despite multiple directives, and chances, the intoxicated mother would not stop interfering, and was arrested. Rebecca A. LaKemper, 44, of Smithton, was arrested on a charge of Resisting Arrest/Interfering With An Arrest. The driver, Chandler Wade LaKemper, 23, of Columbia, was arrested on a charge of Driving While Intoxicated, and his Failure to Appear warrant on original charges of Speeding. Both LaKempers were placed on a 24 hour hold at the Pettis County Jail.


 

Wednesday night, Officers conducted a warrant check in the 1300 block of East 4th Street. Officers made contact with the subject, checked his information with Dispatch, and confirmed he a had warrant out of Pettis County. The warrant was issued in July of 2022 on a charge of felony Assault in the 3rd Degree. Michael James Tackitt, 44, of Sedalia, was arrested on his warrant and transported to the Pettis County jail to be booked, pending a cash or surety bond of $2500.


 

Officers spoke with the owners of a local business in the lobby of the Police Department Wednesday morning regarding a case of fraud. The owner explained in a detailed narrative that a unknown suspect intercepted business emails regarding the upcoming mortgage payment for the businesses, in the 900 block of Thompson Boulevard. The suspect then arranged a fraudulent exchange of a large sum of money as that payment. However, the transfer of said payment did not go to the intended recipient. An investigation into that fraudulent action has been initiated.


*An aggravated DUI is when a person is found to be driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs while also committing another offense. This is indicated by specific “aggravating influences” that are present or that occur at the time of the incident, resulting in a much more severe charge.
