Sedalia Police Reports for December 29, 2023

Thursday afternoon, Officers responded to the Sedalia Police Department lobby to process a subject who was surrendering to Police due to having a warrant for their arrest. William M. Lawson, 19, of Sedalia, was arrested for his Failure to Appear warrant on an original charge of Operating a Motor Vehicle on the Highway Without a Valid License. The citation was written in August of 2020, and a Failure to Appear warrant was issued in September of 2021. Lawson was transported to the Pettis County Jail to be booked. Bond was set at $60.00 cash only.

Sedalia Police observed a silver SUV stopped at a green light on westbound West Broadway Boulevard at South Kentucky Avenue early Thursday morning. The vehicle stayed stopped for an extended period of time. Officers pulled behind the vehicle as it continued to impede the flow of traffic. After several seconds of being stopped behind the SUV, Officers activated their emergency lights. The SUV then pulled into the parking lot of the Break Time store, 318 West Broadway Boulevard. Officers attempted to contact the driver, but she did not appear to know the Officer was at her driver's door. The Probable Cause report notes the suspect "took her time" to open the door and step out, "as if she did not realize my presence". A strong smell of intoxicants came from the driver. The suspect initially agreed to field sobriety tests, but refused to follow instructions. A search of the vehicle revealed a nearly empty 80 proof bottle of E and J liquor in the center console and approximately five grams of marijuana in a baggie. The suspect was placed under arrest and then transported to the Pettis County jail for a blood draw. Felicia Lynn Byrd, 29, of Sedalia, was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated (Prior Offender) and Driving While Suspended. Byrd was placed on a 24 hour hold at the Pettis County Jail.

On the evening of November 11th, Officers responded to the 3000 block of South Limit in reference to a motor vehicle crash. Through the investigation and a subpoena of medical records, evidence revealed the driver was impaired by alcohol at the time of the crash. A state charge of Driving While Intoxicated (Prior Offender) is being requested.

Officers stopped an SUV in the area of North Park Avenue and West Main Street for moving violations Thursday evening. The driver was intoxicated and had a child in the car. Due to the manner of driving and further evidence, the driver was arrested. Timothy Michael Morris, 39, of Sedalia, was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated and Endangering the Welfare of a Child in the 1st Degree. Morris was transported to the Pettis County Jail to be placed on a 24 hour hold.
