Sedalia Police Reports for December 26, 2023

Monday evening, Officers responded to the 1400 block of South Prospect Avenue in reference to a domestic disturbance. Officers made contact with both parties involved, and could not determine a primary physical aggressor. A 12-hour log was made for documentation.

Early Tuesday morning, Officers responded to the 500 block of East 4th Street in reference o a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, the victim had minor stab wounds, and was treated by PCAD. Tara Lynn Davis, 41, of Sedalia, was arrested for a felony charge of Domestic Assault in the 3rd Degree, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and Armed Criminal Action. Davis was transported to the Pettis County jail to be placed on a 24-hour hold.

Officers were dispatched to the SPD lobby in reference to a violation of an order of protection by repeated telephone messages. A suspect was identified in the case, and formal charges of Violation of an Ex Parte have been forwarded to the Prosecutor.

Christmas morning, Officers responded to a call of vandalism in the 1600 block of South Prospect Avenue. The reporting party stated that suspect vandalized their vehicle. The suspect had kicked it on the driver’s side and then left the area on foot. The victim’s vehicle had minor damage to the driver’s door. A suspect has been identified, and the matter is under investigation.

Sedalia Police were dispatched to the Casey’s store, 716 West 16th Street, to take an abandoned property report. A bicycle had been found behind the business. Officers arrived on scene, determined the bicycle was not currently considered stolen, and the bicycle was transported to the Police Department for safekeeping.

On the evening of December 19th, Officers were dispatched to the area of North Mill Street and Saline Avenue for a report of a theft. A bicycle was stolen. Officers gathered information from the victim, attempted to located a described suspect, and a report was completed.

Saturday evening, Officers responded to the 2300 block of East 10th Street for a report of potential shots fired. Officers spoke to subjects in the area and a suspect was identified. The suspect had fled the scene prior to Officers’ arrival. Charges are being requested.

Officers performed a warrant check on Sunday evening in the 300 block of McAnally Court. The suspect was located inside the residence, and was taken into custody without issue. Carl Frank Smith, 41, of Sedalia, was arrested for a Failure to Appear warrant on original charges of felony Possession of a Controlled Substance, felony Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and felony Unlawful Possession of a Firearm. Smith was transported to the Pettis County Jail to be held with a $35,00 cash or surety bond.

On the afternoon of December 19th, Officers were dispatched to the Police Department lobby to take a report of an assault. The assault took place in the area of South Moniteau Avenue and West Main Street. Officers arrived on scene and took a statement from the victim. Information was collected, and a report was completed.

In the early morning hours of Christmas Eve, a truck was stopped in the area of West 16th Street and Stone Creek Drive after it was observed committing several traffic offenses. The vehicle was driving on the wrong side of the road, disobeyed a stop sign, drove outside of its lane, drove on the sidewalk, and was weaving while driving well below the speed limit. The driver was intoxicated, and did not have a valid driver’s license. Felix Aranda Diaz, 53, of Knob Noster, was arrested on a charge of Driving While Intoxicated (Alcohol), felony Operating a Motor Vehicle on the Highway Without a Valid License, No Proof of Insurance, and Improper Lane Usage. Diaz was transported to the Pettis County Jail to be placed on a 24-hour hold.

Sunday night, Officers were dispatched to the 500 block of West 7th Street in reference to a report of a person not breathing. SPD, Sedalia Fire, and PCAD attempted life saving measures. However, the subject ultimately passed away due to natural causes. Next of kin was notified, and a local funeral home collected the body.

In the early morning hours Saturday, Officers sopped an SUV near the area of South Warren Avenue and West Broadway Boulevard because it had expired plates, and was showing indicators of impaired driving. The driver was intoxicated by drugs. Dana Lynne Bark, 52, of Sedalia, was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated (Drugs)*. Bark was transported to the Pettis County Jail to booked.

Sunday morning, Officers conducted a vehicle check at the Wal Mart store, 3201 West Broadway Boulevard, after hours. Officers made contact with both occupants of the vehicles, and checked their identification. One individual had multiple warrants, with one being extraditable**. Jess Franklin Chaney, 59, Homeless, was arrested on his El Dorado Springs warrant on charges of Operating a Motor Vehicle Without Maintaining Financial Responsibility, Failure to Wear a Seat Belt, and Failure to Property Display License Plates. Chaney was transported to the Pettis County Jail for processing. Total bond was set at $213.50.

Officers were dispatched to the Police Department lobby for a report of damaged property Friday afternoon. Officers arrived on scene, gathered all the pertinent information from the reporting party, and a report was completed.

Sedalia Police were dispatched to the Phillips 66, 216 West Broadway Boulevard, for a report of a person defecating behind the building Saturday afternoon. Officers arrived on scene, and gathered information from the store manager. The suspect later returned to the business. Randy Loren Veeder, 47, Homeless, was arrested for a charge of Trespassing in the 1st Degree.

Saturday evening, Officers were dispatched to the area of West 2nd Street and South Missouri Avenue to investigate a verbal disturbance. On arrival, Officers located a subject and identified him. The subject had an outstanding warrant from Pettis County on a charge of Domestic Violence in the 4th Degree, with a bond of $5,000 cash or surety***. Jersi Eduardo Claros, 33, of Sedalia, was arrested on his warrant and transported to the Pettis County Jail.

Late Christmas Eve, Officers initiated a traffic stop near the intersection of South Harrison Avenue and West 13th Street. During the stop, the driver of the vehicle was arrested. Karl L. Buettner, 48, of Sedalia, was arrested for Driving While Suspended and Failure to Register Annual with the DOR. Buettner was transported to the Pettis County Jail, to be booked and released.

Sedalia Police stopped a car at Applebee’s, 3320 West Broadway Boulevard, after it was observed speeding on Main Street. The car was travelling at a rate of 73 MPH in a 35 MPH zone on Saturday evening. The vehicle then attempted to flee law enforcement, and drove carelessly in an extremely intoxicated condition through the Applebee’s parking lot. Alexander Nikolayevich Zaytsev, 20, of Sedalia, was arrested and placed on a 24 hour hold at the Pettis County Jail. Zaytsev was booked in on charges of Driving While Intoxicated, Minor in Possession of Alcohol, felony Resisting Arrest (Creating a Substantial Risk).

Friday night, Officers responded to the 1100 block of East 11th Street in reference to a theft report. Crystal Sheresa Tomasen Burton reported a cell phone of hers was stolen. The suspect is known at the time of the report.

Officers responded to the 100 block of South Prospect Avenue in reference to an unresponsive male in a residence Friday evening. After all life saving attempts, the subject was pronounced deceased. The body was transported to a funeral home.

Friday afternoon, Officers responded to the 2600 block of West Broadway Boulevard**** in reference to a theft report. The theft occurred on December 16th, 2023. Officers spoke with the victim, who said they had left their phone at a business and someone else had taken the phone. Officers collected the information, and a written statement from the victim.

On the morning of December 22nd, Sedalia Police responded to the State Fair Shopping Center for a report of trespassing. Upon arriving the suspect was located and placed under arrest. Dwight Albert Trester II, 61, Homeless, was arrested on a charge of Trespassing in the 1st Degree. Trester was transported to the Pettis County Jail to placed on a 24-hour hold.

*According to Casenet entry 22MT-CR00277-01, Bark is currently on Probation for five years as of April 2023 on a felony charge of Possession of a Controlled Substance.

**Franklin had several non-extraditable Failure to Appear warrants, all from Independence, Missouri. In May of 2023, Failure to Appear warrants were issued for Franklin on charges of Expired Plates, Operating a Motor Vehicle Without Maintaining Financial Responsibility, Failure to Wear a Seat Belt, and two counts of Equipment Violation. Total cash only bond on those warrants amounted to $1800. In November 2023, two more Failure to Appear warrants were issued on charges of Resisting Arrest and Trespassing. Total bond on those warrants came to $1400. In December 2023, another set of Failure to Appear warrants were issued on charges of Expired Plates, and Operating a Motor Vehicle Without Maintaining Financial Responsibility, with total bond on those warrants set at $600.
